Hi!! My son signed up in November as a Hospital Corpsman and is scheduled to leave August 13th for GL. We were recently notifed he was one of the ones selected for the Navy Cardinals Company. So I guess he leaves the recruit office in Joplin Mo on the 13th then heads to St Louis Mo for the festivites and then head to GL? I am so proud of him but have alot of sadness as well as worry and anxiety. Does anyone else have family members that were selected for the Navy Cardinals Company? Although my husband grew up in the military life... I did not.. I was born and raised in the same town i'm currently still living and raising my kids so this is a HUGE adjustment for me. He is my 1st born out of 3 boys. So this momma is having trouble. Not looking forward to saying goodbye.
May I ask what is the Navy Cardinals Company??
Today my son turned 18. Tomorrow starts his 60 days out. Graduation and party is set for next weekend.. It's hard , Birthday, Graduation and Farewell/So Proud Party all rolled into one. How I wish I could stop time just a tiny bit.
Hi everyone. My son turns 19 on Wednesday and it's bittersweet. His BC date is August 6, about 7 weeks away. He is going to be in the Nuke program. I'm starting to panic, have I taught him all he needs to know? Have I prepared him to be on his own? Is the Nuke program going to be too difficult for him? Also, he said he needs to gain weight for the Navy. He's tall and very slender. Any suggestions other than a bowl of ice cream every day? I am trying to not let him see my sadness at his leaving and instead show my excitement for his great adventure. Sometimes it's easier than others. I am going to miss him so much. I long for the days when he used to bring me a dandelion boquet!
Hi ladywolf, weight gain, get him a high calorie, carb, protein drink mix. I get my sons at vitamin world. He has put on 10lbs in the last couple months. My 20 yr old is in last phase of nuke. It is a very tough program so just make sure he knows you support him no matter what. The sailors go through many ups and downs. There is a nuke group on FB that is good.
Dorothea My son Connor had his all in one party last week it was the best thing to do with all so close . Connor doesn't' turn 18 till Aug 8th but he will be in BC by then just nine days before he leaves here to go to Harrisburg, PA goes by so fast . Good luck to your son.
Best of luck to your son as well. I had an all in one party for him back in June. His sister's are having another party/cook out for him today. I guess they just want to make sure he knows how proud they are. Put a small Happy Birthday note in his wallet. He will either find it a Meps or through out his journey in bc.I bet he will keep it forever.: )
Thanks that's a great idea. He got a wallet finally at Kohl's so I will def. stick some little note in there. Only 6 more days. Its going by fast.....
Thanks
