Hi Ladies! My apologies if I missed welcoming anyone. For the first time since my son enlisted I actually didn't check this site everyday. Less panic maybe? What is everyone doing this week? My son sold his car, he's quite sad about it and we loaned him one of ours. His apartment lease is up in July so he'll be moving home for a week or two before they go to BC. On a good note we took Grandma out for a wonderful dinner on Mothers Day and my son finally told her he had joined the Navy. He had been holding back thinking she was going to cause quite a fuss. Guess what! She told him she was proud of him and that she thought it would be a great experience. Yeah!

Hi!!  My son signed up in November as a Hospital Corpsman and is scheduled to leave August 13th for GL. We were recently notifed he was one of the ones selected for the Navy Cardinals Company. So I guess he leaves the recruit office in Joplin Mo on the 13th then heads to St Louis Mo for the festivites and then head to GL?  I am so proud of him but have alot of sadness as well as worry and anxiety. Does anyone else have family members that were selected for the Navy Cardinals Company? Although my husband grew up in the military life... I did not.. I was born and raised in the same town i'm currently still living and raising my kids so this is a HUGE adjustment for me.  He is my 1st born out of 3 boys.  So this momma is having trouble.  Not looking forward to saying goodbye.

May I ask what is the Navy Cardinals Company??

Sharone-- I have attached the info I got online from last year. This is a select few who will be going to bootcamp at that same time. They will get to did their final oath of enlistment on the st Louis cardinals feils as well as a picnic with family members before the game. Pretty proud of him. I'm not even sure how he got selected but its pretty cool so was trying.g to find another parent.. ST. LOUIS (NNS) -- Eighty-seven future Sailors took the oath of enlistment in a pregame ceremony at Bush Stadium Aug. 9. The 87 recruits make up the 54th Cardinal Company.

Chief of Naval Personnel Vice Admiral Scott Van Buskirk administered the oath of enlistment to America's newest Sailors.

"I am thrilled to be here. It truly is an honor to give the oath of enlistment to the 54th Cardinal Company," said Van Buskirk. "The Cardinal Company has a long tradition here. This truly makes it a great Navy day!"

Navy Recruiting District (NRD) St. Louis and the St. Louis Cardinals have worked with the U.S. Navy League St. Louis Council, which has sponsored the event since 1958. The recruit company is comprised of enlistees from Missouri, Illinois, Kansas, and Kentucky. They will continue to train together as a division throughout their time at Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, Ill.

"I think this is a great opportunity for these future Sailors to start their Navy careers and to be a part of such a historic Saint Louis tradition," said Engineman 2nd Class Nathan Royalty, Navy Recruiter.

For the recruits the day began with a pre-event picnic gathering at 9:30 a.m. at the Soldier's Memorial and Eternal Flame Park. After watching the game, the recruits boarded busses and headed to Recruit Training Command.
My daughter is planning to leave August 20; she signed up in November. The date is getting closer...I.know I will miss her. A few weeks ago I found advice at this website of things recommended that my daughter could take with her: a black billfold, some money, band aids, etc. I should have bookmarked it but I didn't. I definitely would like to,read through the list again. Can anyone help me find it? Thank you so,much!!

Today my son turned 18. Tomorrow starts his 60 days out. Graduation and party is set for next weekend.. It's hard , Birthday, Graduation and Farewell/So Proud Party all rolled into one. How I wish I could stop time just a tiny bit.

Hi everyone.  My son turns 19 on Wednesday and it's bittersweet.  His BC date is August 6, about 7 weeks away. He is going to be in the Nuke program.   I'm starting to panic, have I taught him all he needs to know? Have I prepared him to be on his own?  Is the Nuke program going to be too difficult for him?  Also, he said he needs to gain weight for the Navy.  He's tall and very slender.  Any suggestions other than a bowl of ice cream every day?  I am trying to not let him see my sadness at his leaving and instead show my excitement for his great adventure.  Sometimes it's easier than others.  I am going to miss him so much.  I long for the days when he used to bring me a dandelion boquet!

Hi ladywolf, weight gain, get him a high calorie, carb, protein drink mix.  I get my sons at vitamin world. He has put on 10lbs in the last couple months.  My 20 yr old is in last phase of nuke.  It is a very tough program so just make sure he knows you support him no matter what.  The sailors go through many ups and downs. There is a nuke group on FB that is good.

Dorothea  My son Connor had his all in one party last week it was the best thing to do with all so close . Connor doesn't'  turn 18 till Aug 8th but he will be in BC by then just nine days before he leaves here to go to Harrisburg, PA goes by so fast . Good luck to your son.

Best of luck to your son as well. I had an all in one party for him back in June. His sister's are having another party/cook out for him today. I guess they just want to make sure he knows how proud they are. Put a small Happy Birthday note in his wallet. He will either find it a Meps or through out his journey in bc.I bet he will keep it forever.: )

Thanks that's a great idea. He got a wallet finally at Kohl's so I will def. stick some little note in there. Only 6 more days. Its going by fast.....

Thanks

My husband was in Cardinal Company back in 1985 LOL

We live in AZ now and thats where my boys have and are leaving from.
