Micka; They offered him something in the Nuke program but he isn't interested. But this undesignated rating or lack thereof is making me nuts! He met with his recruiter tonight who convinced him to stay a Fireman. Ahhhh! Not giving up hope tho. Trying to find someone who's already done this to give him an educated opinion.
I would be a little worried about undesignated. Sometimes the Navy will put you where they need you and not always good. He had a good ASVAB score he should be telling them what he wants.

My son leaves for BC on August 6 and the waiting is terrible.  He will be 19 in June.  I will miss him so very much.  I get terribly sad when I think about his leaving but I know he is going to have a great experience.  I try not to dwell on it.  Is this denial?  Anyone have any coping skills/ideas on how to get through the next 3 months?

Hi, Ladies my son was suppose to leave Aug, 13 but got moved up to Aug. 6 so we will leave for Harrisburg Pa on AUG 5 unfortunately Connor will not be with us on Aug8 for his 18th birthday. Ironically he leaves on his brothers 21st birthday.. It's getting close so getting nervous but don't want him to see that in me ,I've been having a lot of medical issues so I don't want him going to BC worrying about me.

Hi Ladywolf and Sharone!
Welcome to our group. My son is also leaving Aug. 6th.
For myself, planning, planning, reading up on all of the information, and more planning, has really helped calm my nerves. For me knowing what to expect and understanding the process is making this much easier. I'm also just trying to spend as much time with my son as possible, which is actually quite nice since he hasn't lived with us for almost a year now.
I'm sure the other mom's here will have more great ideas to add!

By the way, does anyone else have a son in the "engineering family", this is what the recruiter is calling it, stating that my son isn't really undesignated, and that he'll pick his rating on 3-2 day. I am not convinced.
I agree, Kadika! Trying to find the balance between helpful and too much is not easy! Fortunately, I haven't had to do much, since my daughter made her decision, she's been very motivated! I'm finding the info I need for BC and all. I was in the Navy myself, many moons ago, so I know how it works from the inside. What I can't find is how to reconcile how my little girl (who, at 18 still loves nothing more than curling up with a Disney movie!) has become this amazing, independent young woman!! I can't get the picture in my mind of my baby girl to fit into my picture of boot camp and being "grown up"!!!

Sharon my son was originally scheduled for Aug 13th then changed to 12th and 5th but talks now are of sometime between 5th and 8th.  It's a little frustrating.  I have tried not to think to much about my son leaving, he is my youngest, so... (:

@Tracie I think It's awesome you are going to have a Navy Princess (:

Same thing is going on with my son Tracie, we know he will be leaving sometime between the 5th and 8th. But started with the 13th

So far they say his date to leave is still Aug. 6 to GLSo he will leave for Harrisburg, Pa on the 5th. Getting closer. Trying to stay strong. That way he won't worry about me in BC
Several of our kids leaving that day. So glad we'll all be here for each other.
We can do it! Hang in there Sharone, even though its incredibly tough, just imagine what amazing young men they will become. Deep breath!
Yes, they will. I'm glad we have each other. He just had a picnic with his recruiters and others leaving in the next 3months. it was nice it was announced that he is now a E -2 so his pay will be more. So proud of him for promoting new recruits.
