My son will be leaving from Pennsylvania on 7/16 for Great Lakes. Is there anyone else that has a recruit leaving on the same day?

My daughter is leaving from Indianapolis the same day!
Right now she thinks Texas for MA school but I think things are still up in the air about that. She is very excited about this new venture in her life. How old is your son and how are you feeling about everything??
My son is 17. He graduates the first week of June, turn 18 the first week of July, and then off to bootcamp on the 16th. I'm really excited for him, probably more excited than he is. :) I'm also nervous thinking about the fact that he'll being away from home. He is my only child so it's going to get real quiet around here! I've already figured out that I'm going to need to find something to occupy all of the free time I'm going to have. Hopefully I'll find something constructive to do so I don't worry myself crazy.
I'm glad to hear your daughter is excited! My son was very excited at first and then I think the reality set in. He is still looking forward to going, but I sense some trepidation. I think that is completely normal though with any big decision we make in our lives that involves change. I'm very glad I found this site. I think it is going to be partly responsible for my sanity while he's gone!
I hope you are having a nice Memorial Day weekend!
Hello Lindsaysproudmom,
Can you find out if your daughter is in the same division as Kevin Ahlstrand? When my son left, I didn't find out to the friday before, but my divorce is quite ugly and my son chose my husband, which I don't feel is right because they shouldn't have sides and if so we are parents not friends, thats what I would tell him. So needless to say, my insides are upside down, I would like to see him at PIR, I've written everyday, but sure if he is even getting my mail.

Son shipping 7/16 from Pensacola Fl!! Feeling a bit nervous but actually beginning to feel more excited for him. It is going to be very hard for his brother who is a yr younger and they are extremely close(like twins). Not sure how that will play out as these days keep getting closer and closer.
I know how you feel. I'm excited and nervous at the same time. I've been overwhelming him with all of the great information that I've found on this site to the point where I think he just wants me to stop talking about it. :) From what I have read, it looks like their PIR date should be around 9/12. I'm hoping the time until he leaves goes slowly and the time until PIR goes quickly! What job did your son choose?
I keep trying to prepare him and get him focused on all things Navy..we even live and work at a Navy base so you'd think he'd be gung ho. Not the case. He hears me and then just does his thing as usual.LOL My husband is finally starting to look at what I keep showing him but it's just to appease me. I guess I'm a bit of a prepper and they are just both so well it'll happen soon enough. My youngest son definitely does not want to hear anything about any of it. I'm already looking at the PIR date as well and making reservations for that week at the Navy Lodge there. I have been to a PIR way back in 88 for my sisters then-boyfriend. It was really pretty cool to see after living an Army life all my life.
Bri is in the process of trying to get CTN, he went for Nuclear but found out he is very color blind. He signed in as an AZ but has an appeal going on now. Hopefully we'll hear something this coming week. We have lots going on since my husband is up a huge promotion and we will probably be moving around the same time he ships...I may be crazy before Sept! :)
It sounds like you have more than enough to do! I couldn't even begin to imagine moving with everything else that is going on. My son wanted CTN as well (really any of the crypto jobs) but his ASVAB wasn't high enough. They actually didn't have any jobs available when he went to MEPS. Apparently they had to call around and ended up getting an open HM job for him, which isn't a bad job at all. He and I both were very adamant about not going in PACT.
On a good note, I did have some luck getting him to go through the General Orders today using the Quizlet app I had him download on his phone. Apparently making it more like a game was appealing though I doubt he'll use it on his own. We had some time to kill waiting for an appointment. I think I know at least 5 of them now as well. :)
I hope that your son wins his appeal. I would imagine that if his job changed, his ship date would as well? Hopefully you are having a nice stress free holiday weekend. It sounds like you'll have your hands full in the upcoming months.
I know what you mean, I am excited but nervous for my daughter as well. Such a mix of emotions! I loved that you looked up their PIR date! I know that it won't come quickly enough for all of us. My daughter is very close with both of her siblings in fact she lives with her brother. She followed him out to Indianapolis when he got a job there.
