My husband just left for basic May, 23. I'm already missing him and getting really bored. I am completely new to all this navy stuff and just have tons of questions! We have a 1 yr old daughter and this is the longest we've been apart. How long does it usually take for them to start writing letters? Its been over 10 days and I still don't know where he is. I know I'm being impatient lol. How long does it usually take for the paychecks do be deposited in the bank and bah and insurance to kick in?

A couple weeks for the letters.  Insurance is nearly immediate, although it really helps if you have your ID card done (doubles as your insurance card).  BAH can take a couple pay cycles, but is post dated to day one.  Once it begins, you'll get it in two payments per month. After 30 days, you will see Family Separation Pay too.

They get paid on the business day before the 1st and the 15th, so a pay cycle is roughly two weeks..  However, you have to know how many p-days he had to know if that first check comes on the the next payday or the one after that.  The first check is quite small, all their "incidentals" come out of it.  Stuff like underwear, toiletries, running shoes, etc.  It also is taxed.  He may have been there long enough to see pay on the 15th.

Month one can be tough.  Hang in there.

Ok, good. Thanks for all the info. Is it normal that I haven't received the form letter yet?

Pretty much.  Soon though!

I have already wrote him a couple letters, so I can't wait to be able to send them and get his.

HI , so I got the forms to go pick out our doctors for tricare advantage. But i need my soon to go get his shots and I am wanting to go see the Obgyn. would i be able to just go on base?

I got my first letter 3 weeks into basic. and pay started a little after  month after he got there.  it was not a lot of money b/c they take out uniforms so don't be shocked when you first see it :)  youre insurance will kick in automatically. your ID card counts for regular insurance. if you want Tricare prime you will get paper work to fill out when all the info comes in and it takes about a month to get processed :)

so insurance kicks in automatically? but when will I get an insurance card/ id card. so that ill be able to use the insurance.

You can use his SSN until you get your ID card.  When you get the form letter, you will get a form/instructions on how to get a military ID.  This doubles as your insurance card.

oh ok thanks! I currently have no insurance so I'm hoping to get all that sorted out asap.

I got mine around week 4 I got it about 3 days before his pay hit =)

Hello, I can't really answer your question, but I did realize that your husband and my fiance left for boot camp on the same day. He left two weeks ago now. I was just wondering, did you get the letter that states the PIR date, address, etc? Before my fiance left, he said something about getting paid on the 1st and 15th of every month, but I haven't seen that yet. I do understand what you are going through for the most part. My fiance and I were together every day before he left and I realized I should have made more friends in the area. If you ever would like to talk, please inbox me. You are the first person that I have seen so far who knows someone who went in on May 23rd. :)

hey your the first person I've met too! I just got the form letter today that has all that info. so hopefully you get yours soon! Yeah, they get paid every 1st, and 15th, but I think it takes a ,couple weeks to see it. So that kinda sucks lol. We were together everyday too, so I'm really starting to miss him. I'll message you some time. I need to meet some friends too
