My son left to BT on Tuesday.  I missed his "I'm here" call because it came in at 1:13 a.m. California time.  I have not been able to stop crying and being sad.  We are a single parent family and we are very close.  Any advice to help me is so welcome.  Thank you.

I am right there with you.  Hang in there.  My son also reported May 21.  We missed his call and have not received anything but his box and form letter.  I just keep on writing letter and praying for him to stay strong.  My son is in div 226.  I try to keep busy.  It is time to start counting down - they are almost half way through.

Tomsmom - do you mean Div 266? Div 226 doesn't sound right for a BC start of May 21st? If your 266. Our sons are in the same division. What ship? Mine is 09.

Yes,  ship 9, div 266.  Have you heard from him?

Not today, yet. Last Saturday I did at 11:32 am. I'm waiting. Our sons are together.

Just try to stay busy.  Even though you don't have an address yet, start writing letters, so that when you get the address you can send him all you have.  They love getting letters.  My son said that when letters arrive it is like Christmas morning.  I know that it is hard to stop the tears.  I think we all went through the same thing.  I go to PIR for my son next Friday and believe it or not, as proud as I am of him, sometimes, just the mention of his name still brings on the tears.  I miss him terribly, but I am so proud of him. This is what keeps me going.

Once you get that first phone call, you will feel better.  I promise.

Stay strong and know that you are not alone.

Irene

:( You don't ever stop feeling sad. You simply learn how to cope. I'm a single parent, too. And also very close to my kids. My son was my youngest son. My baby. I have no advice but to look forward to the day you get to see your son. Count down by Fridays from the day they get there. I have 8 Fridays to go! I have been wearing my son's Navy recruit tshirt. It keeps me close to him. I've been working every chance I get plus extra hours just to stay busy enough to sail through it all. I have kept my son's room as it was when he left. Untouched. He owns this house with me so it will remain so until he says otherwise. His sister was asleep in his bed today. When she isn't? I am.

I really have no advice on how to cope. I won't say you'll stop being sad. Because my son left last week and I've had my moments. Just when I thought I was ok? Here come the tears. All I can do is offer a cyber hug in spirit. He's probably with your son right now would be a comforting thing to know. They are probably talking to each other. Probably best friends right now as well. Probably have each other's back. Probably encouraging each other. My son is pretty strong spirited. He holds a lot in. He's probably my son's bunk mate.

Take comfort. Our sons are there together. And both of em have probably figured out that each other's mom? Could probably be sisters! OH wait! We are! Navy sisters in a close big Navy family with others! ((((hugs)))))

Hi , Yes I feel the same and will be sad til I see him at graduation...it does come ...my son graduates July 12th ...almost here...don't worry you are not alone..it is hard for us Moms and Dads as well, and Brothers and sisters too.
