I received the call late last night from my son that he had arrived.  He sounded so different. Very monotone. I couldn't fall back to sleep.

I was hoping that was why he sounded different.  It is awkward having someone you don't know monitor your every word.  Thank you :)

StephMc1108, my son sounded the exact same way when he arrived and called on June 13.  We had put him on speaker phone and so I kept asking my husband and daughter what they thought he sounded like.  I think they are just exhausted and overwhelmed by everything going on.  I have decided I can't sit and wonder how is he feeling, how is he doing, every single second, because i'll just drive myself crazy.  I've got to trust that he's making it and pick myself up and think positive. I've been writing him every day, even though I don't have his address yet, and that has seemed to help me some.  Someone wrote on here that no news is good news so I just keep believing that.  This is a great site because you see that other moms are going through the same thing and it helps you feel better.  Hang in there.  We're all in this together. :)

Thank you!  Yes this site is a blessing and will most definantly help us get through this :)

I did not enjoy that call one bit. My daughter was the same way. But for me, emotionally, I think it was the official break. When I talked to her when she arrived in Chicago, I knew it was the last conversation we would have. I quickly ran around and let everyone talk to her, because I knew that was it. When the call came that night from RTC, although I knew it would be scripted, I did not expect it the way that it was. I thought she would be reading something, instead I heard the RDC telling her what to say. I imagined her standing right in her face. Scary. I didn't cry after that call, though. In fact, I haven't cried since. I know she is safe, but I feel like something huge is missing from my life.

I do too.  I keep going in his bedroom to tidy up.  He has a 13 year old sister and she's having a tough time with him gone.  It's tough but I know this is an amazing opportunity for him and his future.  It's quite an adjustment for me as well but I need to stay strong and positive for my daughter to help her adjust.
