My son will be leaving from Pennsylvania on 7/16 for Great Lakes. Is there anyone else that has a recruit leaving on the same day?

My daughter is leaving from San Antonio that day (it happens to be my birthday).  We are prepping for that day, she is packing up her room for storage, sorting things into long term (keepsakes), short term (might want if she gets an apartment someday) and a very small box for A school.  We are super lucky that A school is in San Antonio, she's going to Master at Arms school.  So even though I'll miss her terribly during BC, I should be able to see her sometime during A school.  After that, who knows.

I'm not sure how we'll do, she's my only child and for a long time it was just the 2 of us. Now that I'm remarried to a wonderful man, I'll have a shoulder to cry on if and when I need it.

Morning! Wanted to share information so I posted a discussion, please read info just in case you didn't know! Have a great Sunday!

OMG! Yesterday my daughter comes up to me and says "3 weeks", I was confused and said "3 weeks for what?"  She replies "3 weeks until I leave for boot camp, Mom". I almost had a breakdown, I didn't realize it was so soon!  So all of the things that I thought we had plenty of time to do need to be finished up quickly.  Is anyone else not quite ready? I printed the list of things to do in the last month before boot camp and we'll be checking things off as we go :)  Hooray for the N4M website!

OKAY FOLKS HERE WE GO!!!!! one week countdown, we can do this parents and families, I'm going to be a cheerleader for the next 7 days then I'll go find a space to let it all out. We did the 7 day checkin today and got the"any regrets, are you really sure??" speech from the recruiter. It made me very proud when he said "I'm ready, let's do this!" Dad and I are having discussions and getting our feelings out with each other showing no fear to the son. :) We are nervous but know he is ready and it will be a great experieince. Big HUGE hugs to all our fellow parents making the 7/16 ship date. We can do this!! Go buy your stamps and stationary now so we are all prepared to fill their mail with love and support.

Fair winds and calm seas.

Anchors Aweigh!!

Be sure to check out the discussion, Things to Do in the Last Month Before Your Future Sailor Leaves for the RTC. I also suggest you join Boot Camp Moms (and loved ones) and begin checking out the Pages there if you haaven't done so yet. Some of you will want to make one or more of the changes at the bottom of OPSEC and PERSEC (Making Changes To Your Profile). Remember if you make change number 1 to remove your last name (or an unusual first name) from your Username, you also need to make change number 2 and remove it from the URL to your My Page. You will want to make change 3 if your profile is still open for anyone to visit and change 4 if you have a profile pic that is of your future Sailor.

My son also has a 1yr younger brother that is going to miss him terribly. I feel so bad for him. My son leaves july 16th and will be attending a school in Great Lakes. Where is your son going after bc?

You mention that your future Sailor will stay in GL for "A" School. What will his rating (job/specialty) be? There are groups for many of the ratings with "A" School at GL.

He is an MM. Machinest mate.

Yes, Machinist Mate (MM) does have “A” School at Great Lakes. Join Machinest Mates and check out Engineers, Snipe Moms, and Snipe Moms(enginers). You will also want to join Great Lakes A School Q&A and GL A-school moms. You can also check out the Training Support Center (TSC) Great Lakes Facebook Page. The Rating Information Card for MM can be found at https://www.cool.navy.mil/enlisted/rating_info_cards/mm.pdf. You will be able to enjoy extra time with your Sailor following PIR. (See PIR Day and Liberty During PIR Weekend.)

Ok fellow 7/16 parents i am begininng to feel the emotions. Anyone else having it wake them in the wee hours? I am trying my best to take it in durimng the days but the nighttime turns me into crazy mom.lol Hope all are doing better than me.

Lauriebelle My son leaves the 18th and yes I'm having a few hard times a day.  Haven't broken down yet but when we are chatting my brain is memorizing everything about his face, his laugh, his smile, and the words he is saying.  We are doing all his favorite meals until he leaves (which all seem to require homemade breakfast gravy lol).  Praying for you!!
