For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either). Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security
Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.
DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.
DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

Badge
leaving for BC 9/24
My son is leaving for BC on 9/24. I know that his PIR is not set but trying to get an ideal of approx. when it might be. I work for a non profit that does a lot of work around Christmas and Thanksgiving and I don't want to schedule something when I will be at GL. My son comes first. My employer understands this and will work with me. Any assistance would be great. I know we won't have exact date until we get form letter but just looking ahead.

Is your future Sailor's rating (job/specialty) going to be Hospital Corpsman (HM), Master at Arms (MA), Construction Electrician (CE), or Utilitiesman (UT)? Those are the ratings with "A" School in TX.

squid, Sometime between now and the end of BC, you will want to join HM (Hospital Corpsman) A School in San Antonio and check out Basic Medical Technician Corpsman Program Facebook Page. The Rating Information Card for HM can be found at https://www.cool.navy.mil/enlisted/rating_info_cards/hm.pdf. That card indicates 19 weeks, but "A" School is 14 weeks after classing up.

Very interesting. From what I understand, they do not put females in subs, so she won't get that experience. Very intriguing though.Is he doing any pre studying?

Squid,I don't know about studying for A school,but then I have been learning on here instead of son. He said that I knew more what his experience would be than he did. I have learned it all from N4M. No females on subs-yet

Your future Sailors should be more concerned with learning the info in the DEP START Guide and preparing physically for the PFA than with the info for "A" School--I'm sure that the instructors don't want to have to unteach something. If your future Sailor passes the DEP GUIDE PQS test with 80% or above AND passes the first PFA with a SAT-MED (http://www.navy-prt.com/femalestandard/ gives the PFA standards for females. http://www.navy-prt.com/malestandard/ gives the PFA standards for males.), then s/he will be able to be advanced in rate (pay grade). See E-1, E-2, or E-3? How did that happen?

he has been studying all of the info that is required before entering boot camp and working out on running,sit ups,etc

My daughter was a sea cadet for 2 years and pretty much knows the required info. She is going in as an E3. So, she has a god head start, Im just thought since she had the time she could get some basics down for A school. She has been running and exercising too, but told her she needs to run in the streets and paths to get used to different terrains, not like the air conditioned track she runs in! :)

The PFA is run indoors in Freedom Hall, but yes, she still needs to be in condition.
