My son is leaving today-June 23 for Meps, anyone else going today? Would love some support, this is all to new to us.

I think this forum will be great to help cope with my oldest leaving and just would love to get someone in the same situation. We are from a small town and no one really to talk military with especially Navy. We are so very proud of our son, that he wants to get out and experience new things.
So is anyone else have a child leaving today or tomorrow?

My eldest is leaving today.  She will be heading out of town for her hotel later this afternoon.  We don't have many people we can talk with, we were lucky enough for her to have an Aunt who was also in the Navy on one of her grandmothers side.  That has helped a little in coping.  This site has been great in having support needed to get through it all.

Mine is, he is the youngest by 7 years between him and his sisters. We are going over later today, Meps is less than 2 hours from here, taking him and his girl friend out to eat. Then we are stying the night to see him sworn in tomorrow. My husband just took him out to the recruiters to catch the shuttle. I have already written my first letter and put a "1" on the outside flap. Here we go, feeling proud, but grieving the change. Empy nest I have arrived after 30 years! WOW

Thank you ladies. I'm doing better than I thought I would, trying to keep busy.

Saw him sworn in and sign his papers, then left. Due to weather they thought they might have to stay over. The Marines did. Navy got out and mine just texted he would be calling soon, "the call". We said our official goodbyes last night before bed. That made today's easier. Did really well, till I got home and got things put away from the trip. Walked back out and saw a pair of his shoes in the dining room. The end of doing fine. Gathered them up took them to his room, found a recent shirt he had worn, wrapped up in it and had an intentional good cry. (*Read sobbed and sucked air). Feel much better now, excited for the call and his new life. Empty nest here I am!

Alissa, it IS good. I too am proud and glad. The leaving is just always hard. Did the same thing when my first left.  She's 30 now and lives 1500 miles away. If we say goodbye with out a plan for the next time, I still squall for an hour or so.

Just got the call! He sounded really good, got a little more time than I expected. Ready for bed! Exhausted

My step son left yesterday for Great Lakes. I've been through this once before with my oldest son but it really did not help to make this time any easier.
