You are very welcome.

Check the date on the bottom of the Rating Information Card you have; if it has a date prior to 10/12, then click on the link above.

Dear lemonelephant,

After looking at the rating info card you gave me the link to and the one my son had a copy of I am terribly confused. I have questions about the card. On my sons it says training time is 14 wks and on the one you gave it says 24 weeks. The link/one you gave at the bottom says revised 10/12, mine says 01/08. I assume yours is more recent and probably more accurate. Can you hlep or point me in the right direction? Also, my son had 4 yrs. NJROTC and after boot camp I believe he will be E-3. I'm sorry maybe I should put all these questions to the recruiter.

Much appreciative,

AprilS

Those within one of the IT groups above will be better able to help you than the recruiter or I would be able to. I have made note when someone has let me know that the weeks are not right. Please let me know if you discover the time.

I know that those in IT "A" School are usually there about 5 months including holding while waiting to class up.

Again thank you so much. It helps to have more information. Helps my wondering mind to feel more at ease.

I'm glad to help.

belovedbyHim, They don't get a lot of sleep in the first few days, but yes, they do get some--very little until the the first night of P-days. Since your SR arrived last night, he spent the night sitting on the floor waiting a lot and will do that in between doing things today and then he will hit his rack in the USS Pearl Harbor tonight around 10 pm, but many are all keyed up and talk to their new shipmates that first night since they weren't permitted to do any talking to each other prior to that. At least he won't have to be up at 4 am in the morning--I think it is 6 am when in P-Hold on the weekend. See Arrival and What Happens at the RTC and the discussion Arwen posted, Your recruit's final MEPS experience - an overview of their last ho...; but be sure to read my reply concerning the statement about not eating for a day or two because her comment in the posted discussion is not quite accurate.

Since your SR will have "A" School in Gulfport, MS at the Naval Construction Battalion Center (NCBC), join Seabee Moms. If his rating will be Builder (BU), the Rating Information card can be found at https://www.cool.navy.mil/enlisted/rating_info_cards/bu.pdf. If his rating will be Steelworker (SW), the Rating Information card can be found at https://www.cool.navy.mil/enlisted/rating_info_cards/sw.pdf.

Hey cos, my son I dropped him off at recruiters June 25. He was in the RTC by June 26 and I got that dreaded phone call in the wee am hours June 27. I also would love to connect. :)

Hi AprilS! Sending you a friend request . Where did your son leave from? Mine left from Nashville.

He left from Columbia, SC.So we are not too far apart. I accepted your friend request. :-)

I have a question about Saturdays and there seems to be conflicting info on this site.

Here: Arrival and What Happens at the RTC it says weekends do not count as DOTs

But here: What_happens_at_boot_camp_-_Day-per-Day it specifically states - more than once that Saturdays are full training (this might be in the comments section) days.

It also says here: Boot_Camp_Processing_Days_P_days.pdf their ship day and P-1 are the same day.

Weekend days and federal holidays are not training days as far as DOT, but there is some training happening in that they do not have all day off and things are structured for the recruits. The recruits have study time and they practice things that they have learned up to that point, but they don't get new things, except perhaps for those in a 900 division (see 800 and 900 Divisions). The recruits won't have any tests or things like PFA's, Marlinespike or BST on a weekend or federal holiday. P-1 is the day that the recruit arrives (sort of). P-1 is a REALLY long day for most. To make things easier, P-1 the day that includes the first 4 am CST that the recruit is at the RTC, but it could include some of the day before if the recruit arrived before midnight.

There is "holiday routine" on Sundays and federal holidays from 7 am to 1 pm and the recruits do have a little free time then. If that is a new term for you, there is more info on it in What does ??? mean? (A Guide to Navy Abbreviations and Terminology)

My SR arrived last Wednesday night, June 26th. I talked to his recruiter today and he told me Ship 13/Div 322, PIR date of 8/30.  I noticed over the weekend that someone posted that their SR arrived Tuesday night, June 25th and was in Div 311 I believe with a PIR date of 8/23.  I didn't think that one night would push PIR out another week with 11 divisions in one day?  Was just surprised, but if it is the 30th then we will get an extra day with him since it is Labor Day weekend.
