Has anyone gotten orders for this years summer cruise? I hear rumors that because of the budget cuts they may not happen? Does anyone have knowledge of this? I have a freshman son and really want him to have the opportunity to be oriented to the various jobs he has options for in the Navy.

My son finally got his order in the middle of June. He is at a Naval Air Station not far from home. He comes home on the weekends. He is hoping to fly in a F-18 this week. Last year he was on a sub for three weeks as a 2C MID and their was a 1CMID and he didn't get to do much more than my son did. So he choose Aviation this year. Hard to believe he has been 4 summer's with the Navy. The home stretch is coming. He has a year and a half left of school so he should be done December 2014. He wants to go subs but he said the Navy is lacking pilots so it will be where he is placed. Either one wouldn't be bad. But Nuclear Power School is what he is after next. It has been wonderful to see him grow in confidence and become a man. So very proud of him. I just love reading about other experiences and where they are going to.

ViperGirl, congratulations to your new Marine!  What platoon was your son in?  Mine was in 3rd platoon of Golf Company.

Sorry I totally missed this!  He was in 3rd platoon.  Unfortunately he got dropped at week 5. :(  Congrats and best wishes to your Marine and Semper Fi!

Thanks ViperGirl!  No, he won't be able to try again.  :(  Guess I'll have to change my screen name! LOL..

Well, my son's 1C cruise has changed a couple more times, but I think it has finally been settled. He is going to NAS Fallon hoping to fly with the Saints.

Well my MID loved aviation. Last week was a F-18 with the Golden Dragons and Monday was a SH-60 helicopter. There was only about 8-10 MIDS at his base. His buddy from school who is in the ROTC with him has his dad who is Master Sargent at their base. So that was a extra treat for them. They even got invited to the retirement ceremony for the Golden Dragons. He is thinking of switching to aviation. It's a much longer commitment. He should be home tonight. Can't wait to hear all about it.
