Good afternoon! My son left yesterday for boot camp and our house has been pretty quiet ever since. It has hit us all harder than we thought it would. My son has been waiting to go in the NAVY for a long time, I just couldn't believe the day was finally here. We did go watch him (and a few others) get sworn in in the a.m. and then they were off to the airport. We opted not to go there because they didn't have a very long wait for the flight and I felt like I just needed to get the goodbyes over with or I was going to explode! As I got my last hug in the tears started flowing. My son did great! I was so proud of him.  We did get to meet the guys in his group and took one of them to dinner the night before ( he was my sons roommate at the hotel) They all seemed very nice. Slightly nervous, but ready to go..We got our "I'm here" call last night about 10:30. He sounded good.. We had him on speaker phone so we all said we loved him and we will see him soon. I could hear the others in the back ground making their phone calls and I couldn't help tearing up again thinking how so many other families were going through the same thing I was at the same time. Today has been much better, I think work kept my mind off of things a little bit. I hope the other families are doing ok. Thinking of you all!

If any of your sons left out of Syracuse I have a photo or 2 of the swearing in.

Welcome Cody's Mom!  Reading your post brought a few tears to my eyes, remembering the day my son left for BC.  That was in April and he was very stoic while I was a blubbering mess!  I knew it was coming and tried my hardest not to but couldn't help it. My husband finally drug me out of MEPS so my son could get back to his group, eat some lunch and head to the airport.  I was a mess for days but it did get better.  This site is truly a God-send so you've come to the right place!  I don' t know what I would have done without the support, encouragement, advice and knowledge I've received from everyone here.  You will find out as you spend more time here.  It can be quite addicting; just want to warn you about that!!  My best advice is to start writing letters now, then when you get the official form letter in about 10-14 days you can send them all at once.  My son said the best part of every day was mail call so send lots of letters!  By the way, he is now in sub school in Groton and just loves his new life.  :)

Hi Cody's mom. Like the mom below your post brought tears to my eyes also. Letters help them so much, I agree start writing now. It'll help you process it all easier as well. Kyle graduated BC oct 2012. He's now in Japan. Japan has been hard for me, harder than boot camp was, at it was pretty hard lol!! The site is awesome, it helped alot. I ended up meeting some awesome moms last year that had children in same div and our date. We are still in touch and I've made life long friends through all this!! ( btw I cried all the way home from Atlanta the day he left, 1 1/2 hours ). My son may not be with your son but all of us moms are in the same boat... Gotta love the navy pun. ;) how old is your son? Mine just turned 20 in June.
Hi ladies! Thanks for the words of encouragement.. We def will be doing letters he has a 9 yr old sister who can't wait! My son is 17 his birthday is the 27th of this month.. Don't worry I won't be sending any cards.. Don't want any undeserved punishment that's for sure.. Thanks again!!
I sent lots of cards, just nothing flashy, no designs on envelops and no glitter! Lol.
My son left on 6-24-13....headed into his 4th week of BC. We haven't received any phone calls or letters from him yet but are hopeful this week. I can completely understand how hard it was for you to give that last hug. I cried my eyes out too and just kept telling him I loved him, was so proud of him and to just focus and do his best. Our house is so quiet.....even the dogs are depressed LOL. We are making the trip to PIR to spend the weekend with him before he heads to San Diego for A school. Send lots of letters....even if they're just a few lines of "just thinking of you and sending you love and strength today" kinda stuff. Then funny stuff too. I don't tell him I'm miserable without him here and miss our talks when he comes and sits on the couch with me and talks to me about girl troubles....lol. Hang in there!

Your SR will have about 6 weeks of ATT at GL before going to San Diego for Mineman (MN)"A" School so you will get to spend extra time with your Sailor following PIR. (See PIR Day and Liberty During PIR Weekend.)

He may have had holiday routine last Sunday for the first time and been able to write then so perhaps tomorrow will be your mail day; or he may not have had holiday routine yet unti this Sunday and you will get a "real" letter next week

4 weeks and no letter yet? I may ge going crazy by that point. Lol. Yes, that last hug..... I'd probably still be holding on to him if I could.. My dog seems depressed too, now that you say that. She has been doing some weird stuff, and that's not like her at all.. There's no doubt I miss my boy. But If he was home he would probably be gone with friends. Lol so not home anyway.. Have the weeks gone by fast so far? Or dragging like I'm afraid they might. Thanks!

Her SR been gone 3 weeks next Monday. It is common not to receive a letter until after the second Sunday or sometimes the third Sunday depending on when the division formed.
