I've let you know this before, but others may find this later.
Your Sailor will stay at GL for about 6 weeks after PIR for Apprentice Technical Training (ATT) before going to San Diego, CA to the Naval Mine and Anti-Submarine Warfare Training Center for “A” School. The Rating Information Card for MN can be found at https://www.cool.navy.mil/enlisted/rating_info_cards/mn.pdf. That indicates Ingleside, TX, but that is wrong; “A” School has been in San Diego for several years. Since ATT is at GL, you will be able to spend extra time with your Sailor following PIR. (See PIR Day and Liberty During PIR Weekend.) You can double-check that in MN Moms and/or Mineman. Moms.
You are very welcome.
Your SR will go straight to San Diego unless he has signed for 6 years and is AEF, then he will stay in GL for ATT before going to San Diego.
Since your SR has a contract for Sonar Technician – Surface (STG), you have joined the group STG (Sonar). The Rating Information Card for STG can be found at https://www.cool.navy.mil/enlisted/rating_info_cards/stg.pdf. Those who have signed a 6 year contract for AEF will have Apprentice Technical Training (ATT) at GL after PIR for about 6 weeks and then will go to San Diego, CA to the Naval Mine and Anti-Submarine Warfare Training Center for “A” School. Those who have signed for less than 6 years will go straight to San Diego after PIR. See PIR Day and Liberty During PIR Weekend to help you plan your weekend.
