I talked to him all day until he boarded the bus at the airport but due to poor phone service we missed the final call. I am beside myself, I had kept it together but this broke me. Now I will be buying the best phone service ever in the am and this will never happen again!! We aren't home yet from the MEPS trip and I dread facing the empty bedroom. Just need to talk it out. Thanks moms!

I am so sorry you missed your call! You are right at least you know what each step is.This site is great and I don't know about the moms out there that don't know about it was would do. Did he leave a message? He is in good hands. Hugs

it couldnt go thru to voicemail and he called his brother too but no voicemail. He knows we know the routine and we got to be with him all day until he went to the airport so that helped a lot. Now I just have to start writing the letters everyday and that will help too.

Thank goodness for this site, I won't survive without it!!

My SR took his phone with him but for some reason he didn't get to use it.  We didn't hear from him until "the call".  I carried my phone around everywhere with me.  I'm so afraid I will miss a call.

Just keep looking for the box...and the letters....We have started counting the Fridays until we can see him again!!

Best of luck to you!  ((HUGS))

thats what i told him just take it one friday at a time. now if I can just quit crying everytime I think about how long each day is.I'm really trying but todayis going to be really rough. Not a lot of distractions here today. I need to get on  a routine and I will feel better.

Thanks i needed the hugs

My son took his phone too.. We text back and forth during the day and then he called my husband later that day and said " don't worry Dad I'm not nervous anymore" and then had

to go because his group was being called to go wait for the bus.. He met a few sailors at the airport that were leaving to go to their A school / home? And was talking to the recruits coming in.. Guess they all had similar fears/ worries.. But were supporting each other. That made me feel better. We got our call that night at 10:30 and got disconnected as soon as I answered. He did call right back with the very quick I'm here, I'm fine and I will try to call in about 3 weeks love you... That was last Thursday so not even a week yet.. But each day does get easier.. This is his dream and our job to support him and let him be the sailor he wants to be.. Keep ur chin up, breath and try to get some sleep.. Take care...

Thanks I'm trying but day one is just begininng and I cant quite get a hold of the emotions yet. I have been so planned and prepared since Feb but cent get it going yet. thanks for the support folks I really really need it. I thought I would be the "cheerleader" instead I am just a blob of tears.

i really need sleep but no luck yet maybe it will come soon.:)

Codys mom, my son left Thursday as well. Wonder if they met?
This group has been so helpful.

Awe so sorry Lauriebelle! I would look on the bright side. The conversation you had with him prior to the bus was much better than hearing the scripted call. I'm so glad for this site. If I didn't know to expect the call or that it was force scripted I would have been worried.

The final scripted call was the hardest for me. It really drove in the spike. My SR and I talked off and on all day as he waited in New Orleans on Monday (I didn't go with as this is his second time going to MEPS and I have seen him swear in AND the recruiters had a surprise for me, his initial recruiter is a guy I have known since I was about 12, great family friend, but he got shipped to Africa just after Jake's MEPS last year. He got home in time to be the one to take him over.) Anyway, we talked off and on through Monday night, and Tuesday as he went from MEPS to the airport. He texted me pictures of the little group he was with. He called me when they got to Chicago. We thought he was going to be at the airport for way longer but apparently they came and rounded them all up and said, we bus out in 30 mins. He called me and that was the most emotional call of the whole two days. He had been telling me that he was nervous, anxious, jittery, stuff like that. But in this call I could tell he was TERRIFIED. He could  not even say his baby sister's nickname without choking up. All I could do was tell him to be strong. not to worry, and that he was going to OWN this. Keep his belly full of water because he had not eaten and his mouth shut and to do as he was told. We hung up with I love you's and promptly bawled like a spanked baby. We have to be strong for them because if they sense our fear or trepidation they will balk. I call Jake's phone and leave him voicemails. Today is was that he left his stinking boots in my livingroom after I told him to pick them up and that he was in trouble! LOL We can get through this! We are military mom's now and this is our life from here on out. We have no choice but to accept it because no matter how hard or often we cry it is not going to change a thing.

I still cry though, and we all will. But yay for N4M! If anyone here has a son that left from New Orleans on Tuesday around 5:30 he may be in the group shot that Jake took. If you want it just let me know and I will forward it to you. They look very relaxed and happy. They have each other now and that is a good thing.

Loves and prayers

I as well missed the call, I felt so bad.  we went with him to meps, seen him swear in and gave him our last hug at the airport.  kept in contact with him when he landed in Houston as well as when they landed in Chicago.  When I had spoken to him at 9:00 CA time I figured he wouldn't call until the morning.  so mama went to bed set her alarm.  well little did I know that he would call 11:45 I thought that my alarm was going on so I started pushing buttons and in fact I turned my phone on heard "Mom I made it.................... then I hung up because I panicked.  I feel so horrible because in my head I had a speech that I was going to tell him. But like I told him before I will see him soon.  Looking forward to graduation :)
