My son will be leaving from Pennsylvania on 7/16 for Great Lakes. Is there anyone else that has a recruit leaving on the same day?

Well folks of 7/16..tonight's the night. We sit in a hotel room waiting for the light of day tomorrow and his final swearing in at MEPS and then the adventure begins!! We were lucky enough to be able to drive him up here today and stay across from his hotel and have him until 10 pm tonight! One more pizza, one more brotherly wrestling match and lots of pictures. I have bribed him with trips to Disney World( after all all the football players go there after the big game. lol) and to anywhere he wants to go..no luck, he's ready. He's really ready but the nerves are showing thru tonight a bit. Dad had a rough weekend with several "walks to clear my head". I have held it together mostly until this am when he had a scared look on his face for a few minutes when he talked to his recruiter on the phone. Had to do a quick closed bedroom door cry for a few. I know all of us are going thru this and our kiddos will be fine, it's a hard mom thing to let them go out on their own without our protection! Love and Hugs to all spouses and parents tonight. Try to sleep and be refreshed tomorrow. Our Army son left for his 3rd Afghanistan tour today as well so it's a bit crazy with us but we are so very proud of all of our kids. And so proud to have sons to serve our country!!

Anchors Aweigh and fair winds and calm seas

My son leaves 7/16 from Jacksonville. I'm nervous and proud of him.
Good luck to all of the 7/16 mom's today!! In just a few hours many of us will be watching them swear in and say oyr final goodbyes. It really is bittersweet. I have a feeling this is going to be a long day for all of us. Best wishes to you, your families and your recruits!

keep in touch and we'll see if they get PIR together.:) Big hugs to all.

well we survived the send off so far today. now just waiting for that Chicago touchdown call and then the early am call. Ours is surrounded in prayers and love right now so we just sit and be proud. We have our first recruit for the grandchild generation with our son. whew what a day"

My son left Gulf Shores Alabama on 7/15 and got to New Orleans MEPS on 7/16 and I received THE CALL at 12:30 that they he was there and I would get the box. I have cried and been tough and cried. it has been a roller coaster ride. I am lucky to have a Marine Father in Law and military friends to help me through this. I just have to get used to not being able to text him all the time. I miss him even though he has only been gone 2 days and his boots are still behind my couch for me to trip over. I think I will leave them there for a while.

We need to meet up!! we live in perdido. key and our just left tonight (tuesday at 5ish) we talked all the way thru til the airport and touchdown but my phone lost service and we missed the scripted call. i can't stop crying even tho I know hes ok!! message me so we can talk since we are so close to each other i would love to meet up..support from all is helpful. We are a military family but this is really hard.

My son left on the 16th as well from San Jose, California.  I miss him terribly cant wait to get the first letter so that I could send him the letters that I have started writing to him.

"The box" arrived a few minutes ago. Heads up that you should be receiving them today or Monday!

Does the box require signature?

Yes, my box arrived via Fed-ex and required a signature. You might want to put a note on your door if you won't be home to let them know it is ok to leave it without a signature. Whether or not it works usually depends on the driver. I've done that before and they've left my package no problem and other times had some take the note and just leave a slip letting me know they made the delivery attempt and won't leave the package.

Hi !!! My daughter left from Syracuse to GL on the 17 th ...
