Choose your Username. For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either). Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security
Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.
DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.
DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

Hi, I did the same and it was 1 am. It was 15 sec long almost programmed . I asked him if he was ok and he was silent . Had to hang up. I think others were listening and he was told what to say. Keep in touch and let me know how it goes.

My call came at 1:33a. It was so short and programmed like you said SouthernCalimom. I asked a question and said I love you but no response.

Hey. My son graduated this past oct. my son told me that on that first call they are not allowed to say anything but what they tell them. He told me because he thought he hurt my feelings. Your next call will be so much more open. Good luck to you both and your SR, sailor recruit! Welcome aboard!

I will. He's so humble though and still so new that he says " mom why do people always thank me, I'm just doing my job" :).
How are you holding up? I know the first couple weeks was very hard for me. -

I think my son is in the same boat with why do people keep saying Thank You to me.
Yesterday I was ok during the swearing in. Today I'm not so good. I thought work would help keep me focused but having a hard time. I'm trying to keep this site up and read on it as I have down time.

My son is in Japan. He's been there almost 7 months. Its been hard. Life with a child as a sailor is a roller coaster. My husband was navy, I thought that was hard. I thought I'd be more prepared for this journey. But this Being my child is even harder. But everyday when I'm having a hard time, I try to remember how proud he is of his choices and it helps me to refocus.
They grow so much in boot camp. The pride you feel that day of graduation will honestly make it all worth it!! That I promise... -

By the way it's 100% normal to feel the way you do. Start writing It will help and your son will love his first mail day. I numbered the envelopes so he'd know the order.

Wow, that is great 7 months in Japan. What a great experience. Please Thank him for me too and Thank you for talking to me! My son is following in the footsteps of my grandfather that we lost 3 years ago, he was a Navy man back in the 40's and Wyatt has wanted to follow.
I have thought of starting a journal myself for each day of what we have done/gone through while he has been gone. I'm also thinking of starting to run/walk the 1.5 miles he has to do.

Also. Funny that you said what you did about the running. I did that in the gym while kyle was in boot camp! It relieved alot of steer to be honest!
We are a navy family as well. Kyle's great grandfather was navy as well as my husband. -

My son left on the 16th as well. I was sad that I didn't answer his programmed call. I thought it was my alarm and I started pushing buttons. the only thing that has helped me is that I did talk to him when the landed in Houston and Chicago. I cant wait to talk to him in a few weeks. I have also started writing him everyday well its only been three days. as far as the walking a mile in a half I think that something I should think about doing. my son flew out of San Jose Ca.
