Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security
Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.
DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.
DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

**UPDATE 4/26/2022** Effective with the May 6, 2022 PIR 4 guests will be allowed. Still must be fully vaccinated to attend.
**UPDATE as of 11/10/2022 PIR vaccination is no longer required.
**UPDATE 7/29/2021** You now must be fully vaccinated in order to attend PIR:
In light of observed changes and impact of the Coronavirus Delta Variant and out of an abundance of caution for our recruits, Sailors, staff, and guests, Recruit Training Command is restricting Pass-in-Review (recruit graduation) to ONLY fully immunized guests (14-days post final COVID vaccination dose).

Anyone going to Groton for sub school after BC?
My son is going to Groton, Conn. for submarine training after boot camp. I was wondering if there was anyone else out there that had someone going to sub school.

My son is! TG 39 Ship 12 Div 290. We were all under the impression that he would fly to CT the day after PIR, but in his last letter he stated that he will be doing the first part of A School at GL, then on to Groton. Anyone else hear the same thing from their SR?

What is his rating (job/specialty) going to be? I have that those with a sub rating all go to Groton after BC and don't stay at GL for Apprentice Technical Training (ATT).

Machinist Mate. I've been spending a lot of time on N4M and have learned so much. This is all so new to our family, but we learn more each day. Now that I have boot camp figured out, A School is a bit confusing. First there is BESS? Then A school for Machinist Mate program, and then further specialization in C school? What is ATT vs BESS? Thank God for all the moderators and experienced Moms guiding us through these waters!

Surface MM's have "A" School at GL, but sub MM's go to Groton. He will most likely fly out the day after PIR.
Yes, you are correct. He will have Basic Enlisted Submarine School (BESS) for about 4 weeks soon after getting to Groton and then have "A" School MM there as well for about 9 weeks. I think "C" School is next for him, some ratings have it immediately after "A" School and other ratings may have "C" School later or not at all. I think he has to have "C" School.

He will not have ATT.

One of my twins will be going to Groton. He leaves for GL Aug. 13. His twin leaves Aug. 7, but he will be staying on GL for A school. I am wondering the same about if they go right to Groton.

Yes, the one going to Groton for MM will most likely leave the day after PIR. See my comment above. See PIR Day and Liberty During PIR Weekend to help you plan for PIR weekend for both. There are additional groups mentioned there for GL. Be sure to have your future Sailor who ships 13 August contact the PAO (rtc.pao@navy.mil) before he ships about possibly attending his twin's PIR and how to go about doing it and be sure that his twin who stays in GL checks into a devitation chit from his "A" School command soon after arrival so that he can attend his twin's PIR. You will also need to ask the RTC PAO if he must be listed on the Access List, so have the 13 August shipper ask that in the email.

My son is also going to Groton, Conn for submarine training after boot camp. We are still waiting to get a call from him. The last phone call from him was on July 3rd. His PIR date is August 9th. We are super excited to him.

My son that's going to Groton has PIR on August 16. I'm so excited. I hope we get to spend a little while at the airport. I don't want him to have an early flight, but even if we only get an hour at the airport I'll take it! Lol. I sure miss him.

My son is also MM-sub. Same rate and PIR, 8-30-13, as willsmom's SR. He is div. 322. I assume our sons will be going to Groton and training together.
