I am new to this site and so happy I found it! My son leaves for GL on July 29th and I have mixed emotions but I am so proud of him. Just looking for other moms/family going through the same thing. It is always nice to know you are not alone!

Hi everyone! My daughter leaves tomorrow, the 29th from San Diego. She was originally scheduled for the 30th, but evidently they are short females, so they moved her up a day.Like many of you, I have mixed emotions right now. I'm thinking this will bea very good experience for her.
Lots of tears here as well. We have had a big blow out going away party for my daughter this weekend. Her closest friends have been here all weekend, stayiing with her until I drive her to the recruiters office at 3am. I will meet her at MEPS in San Diego for her last swearing in, then she goes straight to the airport. It's happening so fast, too fast! Our kids are going to do a lot of growing up in the next several weeks! I truly hope they blossom! I'm hoping she doesn't get homesick, she's been pretty pampered up till now, not sure if she truly knows what she's getting herself into, and that has me scared. I'm trying to be strong, but can't keep the tears away.
My son leaves from MEPS today for GL. We left him at the recruiters last evening and I have been literally crying ever since. He texted me this morning which made me feel better just hearing from him and he said he would try to text or call again if he can before he leaves. My son is 18 and just graduated from HS this past June. I, too have so many mixed emotions, but I know what a great future he has and what a brave decision this was for him to make. I am so incredibly proud of him and miss him terribly already. Other Navy moms have told me to remember that it's 9 Fridays until we see him in uniform at graduation. I hope it goes fast for him.
Maybe our sons will be together through this. Stay Navy strong (from a Mom in CT)
We just walked in the door as well from our 10-hour MEPS round trip. We left our home at 6:00 AM, arrived at Milwaukee MEPS at 8:00 AM, and our sailor-son was sworn in around 10:30 AM. We were able to stay with him while he ate lunch at MEPS. We left him around 11:45 AM, and then we went out for lunch.
We took a lot of pictures and videos; did our share of crying, and had a great time!
Since he was in Milwaukee, he took a shuttle direct to GL - all by himself!
We already received his "I made it!" call at 2:30 PM! He was all alone at that time of the day and had the "personal" attention of four petty officers! (No pressure, right?)
What a whirlwind!
My husband and I are having our random outbursts of tears! Trying to stay busy, but everything around us reminds us of him. He was our first-born and such a big part of our life. And now he's gone. POOF! Just like that...
My son left today. We went up to Phoenix yesterday, he did his final swear in this morning and then we all went to the airport. His flight is delayed, but he should get to GL late tonite. Of course, the cell phone and home phone will be right by my side tonite!
