I am new to this site and so happy I found it!  My son leaves for GL on July 29th and I have mixed emotions but I am so proud of him.  Just looking for other moms/family going through the same thing.  It is always nice to know you are not alone!

YAY!!!  You got the box!!!

No letter yet... we called the recruiter (they said to call them a week after our son got to GL if we didn't have a mailing address yet), but their "database" didn't have anything in yet either.  Boo.

So it's just a waiting game I guess.  I hope he's not one that is a 10-Friday until PIR!  That means he's just been waiting for his division to form... ugh...

Did you get your letter yet?

No letter yet as of yesterday but checking every day! :)  I hope they will have the same PIR - that would be nice.  His recruiter didn't have any info yet either so I guess we just need to be patient - lol!  Hope you are doing well and the days are getting a little easier for you!

Same here.  No letter - I did call the recruiter yesterday even though he told us to give it a few more days.  I've been busy getting my sailor signed up for SCRA for his credit cards.  It will definitely help him in the long run.  I couldn't believe how much of a puzzle it was to figure out who to contact in regards to his credit cards.  I guess I'm staying busy enough to keep the tears at a minimum sort of.

As I said, no letter today, but the recruiter did receive our son's information on their database today!  He says the letter will follow shortly!  In the meantime he gave us the mailing address, his ship and division (Ship 11, Div 366) and his PIR date (September 27th).

Yay!

my daughter is on ship #11 too! But I don't know the DIV # (I called the recruiter's office today and got the address-hope it's correct!) hope to see you on the 27th!!

Join the group, PIR 09/27/2013 TG 46 (clickable link), to connect with others with loved ones training with your SR.  Divisions 365 and 366 are brother divisions and train together and will have Battle Stations-21 together, so look for others with loved ones in either division.  There will later be a discussion within that group for the two divisions.

Wait on the form letter before mailing any letters or until next Monday if you don't have the form letter by then. Double-check the address against those at http://bootcamp.navy.mil/contact_recruit.asp or Ship/Division--How it Works.

cys730, if you don't know the division number, you don't have the address. Don't send anything until you get the form letter. See Letter Writing & Fun Stuff/Questionnaires to send to your Recruit for more on that. There are up to 12 divisions on a Ship. See Ship/Division--How it Works for more on that.

Disy,

That's the trick, isn't it?  Keeping busy and focusing on the positives.

My husband Andy, figured out how he could cope with the "loss" of our son.  For Andy, when he gets down about missing our SR, he asks himself, "What can I do to honor him?"

That thought takes his mind off of missing his boy, and focuses his thoughts on things that he can do around the house to honor him.  Like projects that were not finished before our SR left, or straightening up his room, making sure our son's finances are squared away, etc.

For my husband, it's great coping mechanism.

Still no letter... I'm sure it's normal but I see most already have received their letter so I'm a little discouraged at the moment :( I want to send him letters and know what's going on so we can make plans... Hope you are all doing well!!

Boo!  I don't know if the recruiting office is open on Saturdays, but keep on calling them!  They seem to get the information a few days before you get the letter.  Just wait to send any mail until do get the official letter though.

We're doing pretty well.

It was cathartic writing his first letter and then putting it in the mail.  I have been writing his letter during slow times at work, and when I finally typed it up and sealed it in the envelope, I broke down a cried.  It was a good cry though, you know?

It was the end of the first letter and I had to stop writing to my son.  But then I realized I was communicating with him now, and that was a great feeling.

Gosh I hope you get your letter soon!

Christina, If your mail already came today, it is probably going to be in Monday's mail.  Postmark was 8/7, so it was sent only 3 days ago.

Omg I checked again and it was here!! Ship 11 Div 365! :)
