I am new to this site and so happy I found it! My son leaves for GL on July 29th and I have mixed emotions but I am so proud of him. Just looking for other moms/family going through the same thing. It is always nice to know you are not alone!

Thanks for starting this discussion...my daughter went to MEPS on the 29th and arrived at GL on the 30th, just before midnight (her time). I received my "I'm here" call around 1:15am (her time). I live in Southern Cali so they are 2 hours ahead of me. I am still waiting for my "box"...hoping to get it soon. I've been a mess the last week...still waiting for the pain to ease. I had my daughter at 17...so we basically grew up together and have never been this far apart for any length of time. I know whole heartedly that she made the right decision for her future and I support her 100%...but it still hurts. Looking forward to PIR!!
HI Shanon. Glad you got that call. I can see how being such a young mom and feeling like you grew up together makes you especially close. Let us know when the box arrives!
L.
Hello Shanon,
Hang in there girl, just know that you raised a good girl, she's around a lot of people who want her and will help her to be successful, and that YOU have a support group ready and willing to help you get through this.
Stay involved, watch the videos, read the posts... so you know what each day holds for her and in a way, you can go through the journey with her. My favorite videos are:

...and here's a nice one by CNN regarding "Battle Stations."
Thanks Maureen...I will definitely check out the youtube clips, I've learned so much in such a short amount of time it's amazing! =)
We are all feeling the same and this group has helped us relate and not feel so alone during this difficult time. I had my son young as well and feel exactly the same as you. It feels like a part of you is missing... :(
I totally feel like something is missing...with her gone. She was the 2nd mom in the house to help keep her 3 lil brothers in line when my husband or I weren't around. I'm completely outnumbered now! lol
Thanks for the support ladies...it honestly helps, a lot!
My daughter Savannah left for Great Lakes on July 29th and today our "Kid in a Box" came. We live in Las Vegas and I was shocked that we got her box this soon.
I just got my box too! We Live in Apple Valley, CA. She shipped out early am on the 30th. I was hoping she was going to slip a quick note, but alas, no. I bought tons of cards to send her as soon as I get her address. I want her to receive mail every day. I miss her tons, hope the kids are having a good experience so far!
Me too. It sounds like the girls may be in an integrated co-ed division. I was on the PIR 9-27 site and there are moms on it saying their sons are in Ship 11 Div 633.
It would be nice if they are in Ship 11 Div 633 together! I hope to find out soon! I do know that she was told that they were short females, and they were waiting for her to arrive to fill up a division. They moved up her ship date to the 29th, from the 30th, but in the end, she shipped on the 30th after all.
Quick question for everyone: Where is everyone's loved ones going for their "A" schools? Emily is going to AE school in Pensacola. Anyone going to Pensacola?
