Hello, Trying to connect with other moms that have a son or daughter leaving for BC on August 21st.

Hello Rolltidemom,

Have you received anything yet.  I have heard some say the black box comes as soon as 2 days after they leave.  I don't know if that's correct but I check everyday for it to come.  I'm assuming your son's PIR is 10-25-13 since our boys shipped out the same day, is that your sons PIR?

Good luck and stay strong.

Hello bhbqxe.

I have not received anything yet.  In my mind I'm counting it like this:  P-1 would have been Thursday rather than Wednesday when they arrived because they got there so late.  I could be totally off on that, but it helps me to think that I shouldn't expect to see the box until tomorrow or Tuesday at the earliest. I'm also telling myself not to expect the letter until September 6 at the soonest.  This is all so I don't drive myself crazy (ier), and potentially harm children, animals, and old people knocking them down en route to the phone or the door. I'm waiting on the letter to learn the PIR, but I'm guessing it should be 10-25-13.

I will let you know something as soon as I get anything or hear anything.

Thanks for the well wishes - back atcha.  We can stay strong together.

Great to hear back from you!!  I like the part about not making yourself crazy (ier).  I have completely gone overboard.  I mapped out the 3 week point to when I should get my next phone call so I am not in a place where my phone doesn't work, ie: my girls school, grocery, gymnastics, ect.  I've told everyone, I can't miss this call.  I got the "I'm here" call at 2:30am Thursday morning, when did you get yours?

My son's recruiter gave me the address and his Ship/Div # and his PIR date, did your recruiter contact you?  I have been warned not to write because sometimes the information changes but I know moms that already wrote a letter and their SR shipped out the same date.  I wonder if others will get letters and he will wonder where his is :-(

I have also looked for the group for their PIR on this site, have you seen one yet?

Talk to you soon!  If I hear anything I'll let you know right away!

bhbqxe, I have not heard anything from my son's recruiter.  From all I have been reading on this site, the information may not be accurate due to whatever changes are being made at BC during P days.  I have written every day and look forward to mailing the letters.  I hear what you say about not wanting your son to wonder where his letters are if others are getting mail and he is not.  I have the same concern.  I am trying to trust that for the most part they will all be arriving about the same time. (Perhaps that's my wishful thinking, too.)  No PIR date listed before the ship/division is known I suspect, but that's only my guess.  I don't actually know anything. :-)

Thanks for keeping me in the loop if you hear anything.  I will do the same.

bhbqxe, What division number have you been given? We only have PIR groups through the 10/18/2013 TG (PIR10/18/2013 TG 49) since those in that TG are receiving form letters. The PIR groups are not created until someone receives a form letter confirmming the PIR date.

I have not received the form letter but his recruiter gave me the SHIP, DIV and his PIR is 10-25-13, I can give you the Ship and DIV but I didn't know if it mattered if I posted it.  What is the TG?

Knowing his division number may help us to have a better idea of which division the 10/18/2013 TG will end with.

TG is Training Group, the group of Recruits that graduate on the same day.

That info is at the top of Ship/Division--How it Works and also within What does ??? mean?  (A Guide to Navy Abbreviations and Terminology).

What is your SR's rating (job/specialty) going to be? There are groups for most ratings and/or "A" Schools and knowing that will help you to better plan for PIR weekend.

He's DIV 402 and going to Nuke school.

That division should have PIR on 10/25/2013 as you say. Divisions 401 and 402 are brother divisions and train together and will have Battle Stations-21 together, so look for others with loved ones in either division.

Since your SR will be in the Nuclear Field, you will want to join NUKE moms and you may also want to check out Nuke School Charleston and Nuke A School FAQ. The Rating Information Card for NF can be found at https://www.cool.navy.mil/enlisted/rating_info_cards/nukepower.pdf. Your Sailor will most likely fly out to "A" School the day after PIR. See PIR Day and Liberty During PIR Weekend to help you know how to plan your weekend once you get the orm letter.

bhbqxe, "The box" is a brown cardboard box and typically comes 3 to 4 business days after the recruit arrived at the RTC by FedEx, but it can take longer at times. See Arrival and What Happens at the RTC within Boot Camp Moms (and loved ones).

Thank you, great information!  I feel like I read through this site all day and still have so many questions!  You are so kind to help all of us out!
