My son has recently arrived at Great Lakes andf I'm wondering if there are any other moms out there that have sons there. He's waiting to get started. It will hopefully be soon. He has met one other mineman while doing painting, scraping on floors, etc. I'd love to hear from any other mineman moms!

Hi Mary,
My son just arrived at Great Lakes on 8/30. Is your son still there?
My son just got to Great Lakes Wed Sept 4th he is a mineman. Where will they be going to A school? The recruiter told him San Antonio but his friend just finished boot camp and told me the information we got was outdated and he will stay in Great Lakes.
Hi Mary and Pastor Ben's Mom. Your son will attend Great Lakes for btwn 40-45 days and then go to San Diego. That is what my son is doing. I bet they are in the same class. I'll send you a friend request and we can talk more openly about our son's. I really could use the support of another mineman mom. There are times I feel really shaky thinking about my child around explosives!
Hi Ladies...my son joined to be a Mineman as well and is at BC now. His recruiter and meps didn't say anything about staying at GL past boot camp...can you help me understand what will happen to him when he graduates? I was told he was going to TX but this site has info that Ingleside is closed...for years now...why wouldn't Meps know this? Thanks in advance!!
thank you. It makes me sad for my son to be so misinformed :( and I don't know if he knows or even should know at this point. I am prior service Army so I understand the beaurocracy but with all these technical advances since I've been in you would think that something like this could be worth fixing. Thank you for the info :)
My son is a mine-man also he left for great lakes on the second of December. Received my form letter yesterday but no phone call yet, yes this job is a very small community. He is my only son but I have a daughter who is still in high school. Hopefully we can stay in contact. if you google mine man you can read about what they do and what they are in charge of
Have a great day hope to talk soon Kristin
Hi Kristin...what ship and division did your son get?
I am too a new Mineman mom. My son has completed his training and is now going to his stationed ship overseas. He gives little information and hardly speaks in details about his training/ classes. I am sure he has his reasons. I am glad to hear him in good spirits. he shares good times with his mates. I will visiting in SD next week and would like to bring his friends a gift, any suggestions.
Hello ladies, my son is currently in ATT at GL. He was on hold for only a few weeks after his PIR 12/06/2013. He is doing great at ATT, received Best of Best accomodation and as of today is Class Leader. We also were not told of ATT by the recruiters. What I'm not sure of is how many weeks ATT is?
Hello Mineman mom's, I am just catching up with Mineman community. So far so good! A quick recap, my Sailor finished his training at GL then was stationed in San Diego for more training. He stayed there approx. 9-12 months and now he is on his first deployment. He was happy to learn he will stay with the same crew through out his rotations.
