For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either). Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security
Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.
DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.
DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

I read on one wall that someone just got to boot camp who is 30. I don't know if I could've done it at thirty. But of course by then I have already had Scott and his older sister Brittany. What role in 949 is your son playing?

Good question- I am not sure! I know its an "ship/honor Division"- but I am waiting for a letter from him to hopefully explain more. I know that when he spoke to his wife they probably "glossed over that information" and I get it second hand! I know more from reading about it on this web site than from him! lol! And his wife is so emotional right now- worse than I am- she is not much for details. And Boot Camp at 30? well- I guess if one is in great shape. My son played football all through High School and a few years in College- plus he is an obsessive runner. If not for that I would have thought twice about his choice. He always wanted the Navy though.

hello sharon , my son is in the same ship and div as yours. he is 18 and my first born . he is also the first one out of the nest so i am feeling it. i think that this is such a great site for all of us moms. hope to keep in touch with you and everyone else.

Hi Michelle, Sorry I somehow missed this last night-! Yes, My son is in the same ship and division. He is 24 and married ( as of last November), but he is still my baby. I have 4 more at home still, but that does not make this any easier. If anything everyone missed him and his name comes up every 5 minutes! lol! This is a great site- God Bless you and everyone- I don't want to leave anyone out.

My son is not musically inclined, nor does he play an instrument nor did he do JROTC. I was confused by the 949. However, he did do good on his ASVABS and they also said those that show good military bearing in the first week are also picked. What will your sons job be after boot camp?

He is going to Meridian for Aviation Technology. And I was also confused- He enjoys Music, and he can sing but I doubt anyone knows that but me! lol! He has never tried an instrument- but he did score well on his ASVABS and he is tall, and maybe poised because of his athletics? Maybe he follows directions well? I am not sure- I though it was because of his age- Just guessing. Maybe he is used to being yelled at by Football coaches.

his height would help if they choose him for Flags. In the brief time that I spoke to my son he said he is a body snatcher. This is good, at least he gets to walk around and not stand in the same place for 2 hours. Wheres meridian? Not familiar. Scott is going to San Antonio (Lackland Air Force base) for his MA training. Im hoping he will get some liberty after that, maybe for the holidays FINGERS CROSSED!!!

Meridian is in Mississippi (Naval Base). And I am hoping he will have leave after that as well- I think he was told that after "A" school he should have leave- but I am not sure for how long. I think school is 11 weeks- Not sure what the Holidays will be like- but hopefully January.

Scotts A school is eight weeks. So maybe close to Christmas. Im pretty sure they all get some kind of liberty after, not sure how much. That's one thing I hate KNOWING NOTHING....so frustrating. Anyway, Im sure you will be at PIR?

Planning on it! His wife will be there for sure- I am in the process of negotiating a change in vacation weeks at work- I am supposed to be off last week in October and am trying to Trade for their PIR week. The NOT KNOWING until the last minute is frustrating- I am an RN Case Manager for my company and have to to ask for time off well in advance so all of the patients are covered. I can "call in sick", but travelling to and from makes this a several day event! Am keeping my fingers crossed. I am hoping to have that issue resolved next week- but if not nothing will stop me from his "A" school graduation- hope to have a better idea when that is once he finishes boot camp.

hi Scott's mom, i think my son , is the person that walk up and down and between to Sailors to make sure that they are all up right and not going to pass out. I'm really not sure but hope to get a phone call Sunday to ask. my son is going to Pensacola Florida on that Saturday not sure of the time, but I would like to find out and do they get to stay with us all night that friday?
