My son is an HM leaving Sept 5 2013 for bootcamp.  I am looking to connect with other moms/wives who might share this timeline. Thanks!

My daughter leaves September 9th., Do you feel like your losing part of you with him leaving. My daughter is my youngest and last to leave, it hurts and I feel like I have to be the strength of the family and hold it together, but its definitely having an effect on my life.

My son leaving is most certainly painful and taking a piece of me with him.  I am allowing myself to hurt and cry and grieve - it is necessary in order for me to move forward and not stay here.  I learned this after my 1st son left home.  I realize that being vulnerable to those around me is healthy and teaches my younger son that it is ok to be sad and miss the people that you love.  The key for me, is not to dwell in the pain nor to shut it down.  God has an amazing plan for my son's life and for mine - it's a beginning for both of us!

My husband is leaving Sept 3! This Tuesday. N I'm so not ready...

My son leaves for MEPS on Tuesday the 3rd and BC on the 4th. From Oregon. So not ready but ever so proud.

He will either leave about 5 hours after PIR or Saturday or Sunday.  You really won't know until you get there.  When our oldest graduated we booked hotels for the entire weekend just in case he got to stay until Sunday.  This did turn out to be the case.  We spent the entire time in the airport with him.  They arrived there around 1 am - hence, we did not sleep for 2 days.  I didn't care though!  After A school he will get some leave time before he goes to his first duty station.

Those flying out do not leave on the day of PIR any more. He may arrive at the airport in the wee hours of Saturday, but they do not leave on Friday.

I think it depends on which ASchool they are going to.  There were some that flew out of O'hare and some that flew out of Midway.  I don't think we'll get to know that information until we get there.  (I could be wrong, things change!)

OH, good to know! That was not the case with my first one.

Navymom21294, He will most likely fly out the day after PIR.  Only your Sailor will know his particular flight details and may not know those until a day or so before PIR. See http://www.bootcamp.navy.mil/fam_guide.asp and PIR Day and Liberty During PIR Weekend.

Today all of the pastors and close friends at our church prayed over our son.  I wasn't the only mom crying!  We have been busy trying to finish everything before he leaves i.e. buying stamps, setting up banking, sorting stuff in his room.  I have little shots of nervous adrenaline that hit me (I guess that's what it is) when I think of what he's about to walk into.  I am so proud of him and am looking forward to seeing the man he will become.  Thinking of all of you as you prepare for your loved ones to leave!

My son is also an HM and is leaving 9/17. He's my first child and we're very close. I'm going to miss him a lot, know I'm going to cry buckets but also know that he needs to live the live he's chosen. Can't go see him swear in though, am sending my husband to say goodbye for me.
My son leaves on Sept. 5th as well. He's leaving from Massachusetts. He's the last one at home, so not only will we miss him like crazy, the house will feel much quieter. I'm beyond proud of him but know I'm going to have a really hard time when he leaves.
