I had looked at past years and it looks like they should graduate on the Wed before Thanksgiving (I am hoping this is the case) I am not sure if they would push the division a week early (hoping not). Recruits have to be 18 y/o when they graduate and my son's 18th birthday is 11/26! I guess they could always delay it a week until the 6th. Even though in other years they had PIR on the Wed of Thanksgiving week means nothing and everything is always subject to change. My husband and I are driving from Brewster, NY. I have made this trip 2x's /year for the last 20 years, as my dad lives about 1/2hr from GL and it is not a bad drive and most times it was just me and the kids doing the drive. When they were little, they would watch DVD and I would listen. Now I listen to Audiobooks during the drive and it isn't too bad. Sometimes I have broken the trip up and did it in two day instead of one. It all depends how tired I get. I think because of the uncertainty of everything if the option to drive is available, I would chose to drive, Not having to rent a car is a big plus.
Our son turns 18 on Nov. 27!! I hope they meet while there.
Hi Tracy,
My name is Annette and son Brian leaves at the same time. I'm always afraid of missing something important too! I think it is because we care a lot about our kids. Having this site, I think will help us not miss the important stuff. We are going to help each other get through this.
My son is also scheduled to leave Oct 2.
My son leaves for boot camp Oct. 2. I am excited for him as he starts a new chapter of his life, but still i am having a hard time letting go. He is 19 and my youngest child. Wondering how i will adjust to being an empty nester after 32 years.
I am in your shoes Ryan's Mom - our youngest leaves Oct 3 - he is 21, but still the baby. We will also be in an empty nest. Many mixed emotions: pride, fear, anxiety, excitement. Mostly pride, I guess.
We are in upstate NY and my son (age 18) found out last week that his ship date got moved to October 2nd. It just seems so much closer than the end of October, which is when he originally was going to ship! I have so many questions that I need to be patient and wait for the answers, mainly about PIR and what to expect. I am just so proud of my future sailor! He is joining the nuke program.
