My son leaves for Boot Camp Sept 24 from Dallas. Would love to touch base with other 24th moms no mater where you are from.

My son also leaves for Boot Camp on the Sept. 24th, he is coming from Massachusetts.  He is going for damage control.  I know I should be happy for him, but its becoming more difficult everyday. Time is moving so fast, I wish everything would slow down!

I am so glad to hear that! Maybe they will be traveling together.  His friend left on the 5th and is going for damage control also.  Tell your son it is true they will start yelling in your face at the airport.  His friends mother just received his box of personal items in the mail today.  It was really hard for her.  I couldn't stop crying the day his friend left so I can just imagine how I am going to be on the 24th. I know we need to stay strong but I am finder harder everyday.

I don't think I'll be getting a box of personal items. My son was told to not bring anything. Just the clothes on his back (I suppose I'll get those, huh?) I'm trying to talk him into taking a book of stamps so he'll have no excuse not to write me when he can. So much I don't know. Have any of the other Moms talked with their son's recruiter? I'm thinking of "secretly" visiting him with all the questions I have. I just don't want to embarrass my son.

I know she received his clothes and cell phone, but that's about it.  I went to "Things to Do in the Last Month Before Your Future Sailor Leaves for the RTC" It answered most of my questions.  I know my friend got a lot of her questions answered the day she dropped her son off at the recruiter. He would not let her talk to the recruiter before that. I know I was told one of the most important things to do before they leave is to get "power of attorney" but I haven't done that yet.  I am feeling very overwhelmed and with only two weeks left. I am trying to find out as much information as possible.  I already got some phone cards sent to me.  If you haven't' already I would go to http://callsforrecruits.org they will send phone cards for free.  There is still so much more to know but I am also having doubts about going to his recruiter.  Hope I helped out a little.

I emailed for some phone cards and received an email back with some copied ticket looking things.  They are very hard to read.  Am I suppose to print out the email and he uses those?  Is that what you got?  Kinda strange.

That's what I got but I haven't printed them out yet.  I guess the pin number is written on each but its very hard to read. hopefully when we print them it'll be better.  Your right at least at work I can take my mind off of everything but now I am started to have crazy dreams and not sleeping well. Ugh! I just want BC to be over with!!!!

Oh, me too !  I told my husband, once he's through BC I'll feel better.  I guess being a Mom I don't like the thought of people yelling at him or being mean to him. (no he's not a mama's boy....I am just a worried sappy Mom)  I realize there will be danger ahead but this BC thing has me freaked out.

What type of power of attorney? Health care or legal? My son said they can bring their cell phones per his recruiter. They'll be kept locked up somewhere & given when they make their calls. I guess I'll know for sure if it comes home in the box.

Our friends got a POA that will cover both. It was drawn up by an attorney. You can also download the forms but I haven't tried that either.  I think the site to get that from is http://www.navydep.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1596 You would just need to get them notarized.  As for the cellphone I asked her again to make sure and she did receive it in the box.  He had placed it in his sneaker.  13 more days, Yikes!!!

Oh my gosh, an attorney !  We don't have time for that.... Like you say, 13 more days.  It's all I think about now.  At least when I'm at work I can occupy my mind with other things.  It is too close.  Like my son says, "It's only two months Mom"   It will seem a lot longer to me.  At least when BC is done, we'll be able to communicate better.  Even though he'll be in Miss. at school.  Warmer than Wisconsin.

yeah they aren't able to keep phones. they mail them back in the box. I will go through withdrawn from being able to text him

Just printed hockey tickets for Wednesday's (Dallas Stars) preseason game. My last big date with my son before he leaves for Boot Camp. I love my brave, focused, determined, sweet, funny, grown (sigh), son. Having a weepy day.
