My son leaves to boot camp 9/24/13.   Okay, I'm sorry, but what is MEPS?

Tami

Nevermind, I see that MEPS is the "Military Entrance Processing Station."  I am so "green" at all of this!

MEPS is the Military Entrance Processing Station. Your future Sailor went there to take the ASVAB, physical exam, select a rating and take the Oath of Enlistment and he will go there for processing and to be sworn in prior to shipping out to basic training.

Hello all fellow Navy Mom's, Wives & Girlfriends!

My 19 yr old son will be shipping out 9/23 to Great Lakes to begin Navy boot camp.  I'm at an advantage to the 'first-timers' as I just attended my 18 yr old daughter's boot camp graduation in Great Lakes last Friday, 9/13/13.   This is an AWESOME adventure for your future sailors.   I anticipate the PIR (Pass-In-Review) aka graduation date to be 11/22/2013 but we'll have to wait for the official Navy form letter from your SRs (Sailor-Recruits).  One word of advise, start writing immediately when they leave--letters or greeting cards but be sure to only send in plain white envelopes (as their RDC - aka drill sargent) will bring shipmate (public) humiliation.  Once you receive the form letter, you'll have their correct mailing address and can send your letters/cards right away. If you want to friend request me, please do!  May God bless you all and your future sailors!

Thanks for the info.  My son left for bootcamp today 9/24, and all I have been doing is crying.  I just got off the phone with him, he called from the airport.  He was in good spirits and he made me feel a lot better.  I just wish it wasn't another 2 weeks before I hear from him.

6 days and counting. I am getting more anxious as the day grows closer. My 1st born! I am so proud of him and know that he will be a great Sailor! I hate that he won't be home for his birthday, Thanksgiving or Christmas. But I will live for phone calls and PIR. Our Sailors are going to do great and when we think we are going to fall apart we have each other!
