My son left 9/11 and I was lost and scuttling around and a beautiful navy mom is pointing me in the right direction! Thanks from the bottom of my heart lemonelephant! I love direction and even though I'm still lost in the unknown stage I feel better. I never received a call from him the first night but no news is good news so I'm holding on to that. Would love to know if other mothers received that call and at what time. I'm looking forward to receiving the box and most of all the form letter. Right now I'm writing him everyday and saving them! I'm so proud of him but miss him dearly. Looking forward to connecting with other moms !

My son left yesterday but they should be on the same schedule for graduation. I am familiar with the process because my daughter joined the navy last august. So If you need to know anything I am sure I can help. Also I can be here for moral support as we all need that. Karen

My son left 9/11 also. My first child leaving. What a hard thing to go though. I know he will do good.

It is very hard but you will get letters to keep you going. Make sure you write everyday they love to get mail from home. It will be over before you know it.

My son left on 9/11 also, he left out of California and I missed his last call that came in at 11:12pm PST but was blessed that he had a layover in Texas and we got to talk to him for a little while and he also called us when they landed in Chicago. I am lucky that I have a wonderful family that goes to my church that has two daughters/granddaughters that are in the navy and has helped me through the process, but it is still a hard process because this is my 1st child and only son going. I miss him but am also very proud and know he will do well. Hang in there Darcie and know that you are not alone in this.

My son also left on Sept 11 from Brooklyn NY I didn't hear from him but he called his girl friend around 7 pm

My son left 9/11 as well from Kansas. I was able to text then talk to him at the airport in Kansas City prior to him getting on the plane at 3:00 p.m. I received the short call they are allowed to make that evening at 10:46 p.m. He said I would receive his box in 1-2 weeks and his first letter in 3 weeks. We were both able to say "I love you" before he hung up. I've been devouring all the information I can from this site. It has been great therapy for me reading about other Moms having the same emotions that I have been feeling. My younger brother was in the Navy for 6 years and he has answered a lot of my questions and been a great help as well. I've cried a lot too! He is my youngest and I am missing him, but like you so very proud!!

This site is very helpful it's getting me through the depression of my son leaving and you guys give so much helpful advice thank you for the support especially lemonelephant with all her knowledge

My son left on 9/11 too from Idaho. I didn't get a phone call from him yet. I don't know how I feel about him leaving. He is my third baby but the first to join the military. I cry every time I think of him.

Hi Darcie,  My son left on the 9th - but I think he should be in the same PIR as your son.  I did not get a phone call from him - but I did talk to him while he was at the airport.  I received his box on Thursday the 12th and I am now waiting for the form letter so I can start sending letters.  This site has been such a great resource.  Each day I feel a little better because I know it is one day closer to his graduation.  I am now a little more focused on how to get through Thanksgiving and Christmas without him here.  He should be attending A school at Fort Sam Houston in San Antonio - I have to figure out a way to afford to go see him over the holidays.

My daughter is also going there. She is going in for an HM. I am guessing they will fly out the day after PIR :(

Wow...I can't believe you got his box already.

My daughter left on the 10th. I was able to text her until right before they left for RTC, then got her I'm here call about 2hours later. She flew out from Spokane, Wa. Her PIR should be be 11-8 but won't know for sure until her form letter arrives. My letters to mail to her are piling up, and I'm ready to purchase airline tickets :) I wasn't sure I was going to be able to afford to see her PIR but now I have to go!! A friend of hers left for RTC on 8-20 and yesterday posted on his facebook page that he got special liberty and was able to get online :) he said things were great and he was a division leader. I also watched Faces of Navy Boot Camp on youtube and it gave us at home an idea of what my daughter will go through at RTC.
