For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either). Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security
Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.
DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.
DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

**UPDATE 4/26/2022** Effective with the May 6, 2022 PIR 4 guests will be allowed. Still must be fully vaccinated to attend.
**UPDATE as of 11/10/2022 PIR vaccination is no longer required.
**UPDATE 7/29/2021** You now must be fully vaccinated in order to attend PIR:
In light of observed changes and impact of the Coronavirus Delta Variant and out of an abundance of caution for our recruits, Sailors, staff, and guests, Recruit Training Command is restricting Pass-in-Review (recruit graduation) to ONLY fully immunized guests (14-days post final COVID vaccination dose).

My son left for GL 9/17
Just reaching out - loving this site for the great info and the supportive people. So far, I got a call when he landed at O'Hare. Sounding tired but ok. Then got the 1am phone call when he got to the barracks and him saying that would be the last phone call for awhile. Haven't gotten the box yet, but I am thinking in the next day or two from what I am reading. Any words of advice? I feel guilty that yesterday was actually a little better for me because I didn't hear his voice. Today the weather is gloomy and so am I so today is not so good. I sure hope this emotional roller coaster gets better. He is my only child so this is all new to me! Thanks for listening!

it does get better...one day at a time (or rather in the begining on breath at a time). Everyone is different and there is no "right" way to get through this. Stay strong...and sometimes that means shedding a tear or two.
This website will help...all the info, giggles and moms who have done what you are doing now. Sounds a little corny, but we are all on the same path...some are just a friday or two ahead.

My daughter left on 9/10. I was fine, until she left! I didn't realize it would hit me so hard! I cried randomly for days, I was so sad. It felt like in did after my mom passed away and I couldn't believe I felt so emotional. It's now been 10 days, and all though I miss her, that deep sadness for me has passed. I write her everyday, as if we were having a conversation and that has helped a lot! As well as reading other moms posts and chatting with them has been a blessing. It does get better :)

thank you so much - I did start a "progressive" letter to him the day he left and am typing it on the computer to save space! Can't wait until I can send the first of many letters - thanks for your kind words.

I'm doing the same thing, Marianne. I'm typing it out on the computer. We also have a private Facebook group that is just for our immediate family. We are posting stuff to his wall and when he finally gets his laptop back in A school, he will be able to see how much we were thinking about him. My son left the day before yours. He called at almost 2 a.m. and I worried about him getting sleep, did he get to eat....just because he's gone doesn't mean I stop being his mom. Haha.

My son left on 9/17 too for GL. I havent heard from him yet! He didnt take a cell phone. So I cried for the first day and night (I took a vacation day from work!!!) Waiting still....

oh wow I am so so sorry - did he have a calling card with him? Seems to me like they should've had him make the phone call somehow that he got there.....have you tried contacting his recruiter? Keep me posted!

he tries to be soooo independant. and i didnt find out about the calling card until we were dropping him off to the recruiter to go to MEPs. so i will wait. you are my first friend too! it really does help to have someone to talk about this stuff with!! my husband's response is...."He'll be OK".

My granddaughter left on the 18th. She and I are very close and I miss her terribly. I can't wait to be able to write with her. I am still so sad. She lived with me. I just hope she is ok!

my daughter left for bootcamp on 9/17. i miss her so much. i have a son in the marines who has been in for 1 yr so i have been thru this before but this is my little girl. i'm not as emotional as when my son left (although i have cried at randon times during the day at random things) i think about her ALL the time. she is all i can think about when i am not at work and busy (thank Goodnees). i can't wait to get her first letter home and even more excited to get a phone call
