Hi Blstz22...  Tough to have dates moved up.  We feel like we are losing precious time with them.  Where in upstate will he be flying out of?  Niagara Falls?  Syracuse?  My thoughts are with you.

He flies out of Syracuse.  The recruiter is in Hornell, NY, but Syracuse MEPS is where he went before.  Thorgirl, we can't wait to come out for PIR.  It's nice to know another mom with a son on the same journey!

Absolutely! We will definitely have to meet at PIR :)
My son is Alex, make sure to tell your son to look for him. Its gotta be helpful to know someone taking the same path.

My son is Tyler -- red hair!

Hi Blstz,

My son ships on the 2nd of October also.  He is 17 and leaves out of MEPS in Albany.  My friend's son is in the nuke program (shipped on Dec 5, 2012)  He loves it! The first part of nuke school is in SC and the second part can be in SC or upstate NY, which means there is a slim chance he could be close to home.  I know as the ship date comes closer, I become a little more frazzled.  I would not be happy if his date had gotten moved up!  I am also very proud of my future sailor!!

Hi Blstz!

My son was also supposed to leave end of October (28th) and was moved up to the 2nd. Our recruiter said something about government spending, lol!

I'm realizing now just how precious those 26 days would have been. I can't believe in two weeks, my son will be gone.

He is 17, we live in Michigan.

My daughter, Whitney flies out on 10/2-MEPS is at Ft. Hamilton in Brooklyn, NY, not sure of the procedure yet...anyone have any insight?

My son flies out on 10/2 also, but from Albany.  They have to go to their recruiter the week before and at that time, they will (should) be told either what time the recruiter will pick them up or what time to report to the recruiter's office on the 1st.  They will spend the night @MEPS and early in the morning of the 2nd they should get the complete physical again.  Then they will get sworn in again and they will be sent to the airport as a group and will fly into Chicago.  From what our recruiter has told my son, they keep them up all night and the next day.  I think it is to get them all real tired and on the same sleep schedule, because there will be recruits from all over the US.

Did you do a power of attorney with your daughter?  You may not need it, but it might be good to have just in case.  If you google power of attorney new York statutory short form..... NYC.gov has a PDF one for free on line.  In NYS, the department of motor vehicles will NOT accept a power of attorney without a photo copy of the person's drivers license.  I found that out the hard way a few years ago.  You might also check with her bank (if she is using a local bank) to see if they have a power of attorney just for their bank, as some banks don't accept the general POA.

My son leaves Oct 1........, we live in Colorado.

MINE LEAVES OCT 1 ALSO!  I'LL BE THINKING OF YOU!!!!!!  HOPE THEY GET TO KNOW EACH OTHER.

I'm sure the rest of you Moms are feeling just as anxious as I was when I woke up this morning and it hit me like a ton of bricks, this is the last full week my son (my baby) will be at home.  Would be thrilled if the next 7 days went by in slow motion!

Oh barefoot 1 I'm almost sick with anxity and excitment. He is so looking forward to leaving and I just want it to be everything he is expecting it to be. I think it's the right path, but I've never done this before, so I'm anxious to say the least. My son flies out of Dallas Oct.1. Where do you live?
