While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security
Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.
DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.
DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

**UPDATE 4/26/2022** Effective with the May 6, 2022 PIR 4 guests will be allowed. Still must be fully vaccinated to attend.
**UPDATE as of 11/10/2022 PIR vaccination is no longer required.
**UPDATE 7/29/2021** You now must be fully vaccinated in order to attend PIR:
In light of observed changes and impact of the Coronavirus Delta Variant and out of an abundance of caution for our recruits, Sailors, staff, and guests, Recruit Training Command is restricting Pass-in-Review (recruit graduation) to ONLY fully immunized guests (14-days post final COVID vaccination dose).

My 17 year old daughter is leaving 10/2/13. Im so nervous and also hoping I can find someone else with same ship date!

Today is the 7 day Exec - scheduled to go to hotel 10/2 and ship 10/3 . Mixed emotions - so proud and yet so anxious. Trying to stay in the place that is labeled "This is a good thing for him, it is what he wants and it will help him be a successful adult". Then I slide back to reality and remember my baby is leaving home & will never live with us again. It's one crazy roller coaster, that's for sure ....

I am soo with you Bethin ny. And to top off all those emotions. My son is spending a ton of time with his girlfriend and not at home. Ughh. I am truly trying to be understanding but I don't understand it :(. I wish they would be with us more and try create a bond between all of us it would be a little easier on all of us. that has got to be the biggest hill on this coaster of mine :(. So sad. This is what he always wanted to do after HS. And I know he will be a great journey in his life. So afraid his mind won't be in the right place and thinking he might regret not having spent that time. ( he doesn't need that worry) We already had a fun party and have 6 more days till we take him to the hotel. Hope to spend every free moment with him. I think I have everything in line and ready to go as far as what to take and prepared. I hope :)

I guess I've been lucky in his girlfriend - she has basically moved in with us since early Aug - in a way I can't wait for that situation to end, though it also means he will be gone :( I guess I'm never content (Boo me) since I almost wish he hasn't been with us 24/7 for the past month - his job ended, he sold his car & he has nested since Labor Day. This isn't the way it always was, when he was working & going to school, we could go 2-3 days without seeing him & that was fine (He's 21). Just planning on riding the roller coaster till after A school when he will hopefully settle & be more accesible. Next year this time, we'll have adjusted to his absence & planned accordingly to see him as much as possible. Hang in there Moms - we'll get thru this just like we have gotten thru every other change in their lives.

It is going to be a roller coaster! It is tough when our little birds leave the nest!! I too am really looking forward to this time next year when we have adjusted to their absence and can plan visits. The next 9 weeks are going to suck for us...I don't think our future sailors will have much awake time to miss home. Depending on the A school, they should have much more freedom to call home. I don't recall feeling this distraught when my older son went to boot camp (Air Force) but he is in the reserves, so I knew he was coming home in 6 mo (boot camp and Tech school).

I'm with you Aaronsmom! My son is 17 (18 end of Nov) and is leaving 10/2. He has spent so much time with his girlfriend (still a junior in HS) and her family :-( He even wants her to come to PIR!! At the expense of a family member being able to go. I'm so scared he will use his phone call to call her instead of me. They've only been dating since May and it's frustrating. At least she is nice . . . but still.
I'm starting to get very emotional, his ships ahoy party is this Saturday and while buying napkins today, I had a moment of panic. My son's recruiter has just changed, because he is shipping out in December again. It's all becoming very real . . .
I'm so glad there are others here in the same situations . . .my friends with kids off to college just don't get it!

Exactly. We have so much planned for the next 7 days. And now we have another change. Instead of 5pm on the 2nd it's NOON!! We had lunch with just our immediate family planned. His brother and sisters are staying home from school that day, his oldest has the day off work . . . I guess this is just preparation for once he is truly in the Navy.
I get emotional at the weirdest times. lol!

Here's a question for you ladies: did any of you have your child open an account with Navy Federal Credit Union? My son did, and he has received his debit card. When he arrives in GL next week, will he need to take a deposit slip with him to get the direct deposit set up? The gal at NFCU asked my son when he was leaving so they are aware of when boot camp will be starting, but I wonder if he can simply provide his account number when he gets there. All he received in the mail was his debit card, nothing else.

We did open a account at navy federal. I called the 800 # just to see if we would get it it time. And she needed him to give me permission to talk to get. And she gave us access numbers and account numbers fir savings also. Give them a call. Then I printed from the site a direct deposit form and filled it out fir him to take with him. We got debit card yesterday. So maybe more info is coming. But not much time to wait for us. Try ti call them. And get the info.

Graduation should be the week of Thanksgiving. In past years, they had it on the Wed before instead of Friday, However, everything is always subject to change (esp. with the sequester going on). So, they could push them and they could graduate a week early, they could graduate the Wed or Fri of Thanksgiving, or they could push them all back a week. We should get a letter with the graduation date on it. I too can't wait to meet everyone at graduation. I can't believe it is almost time for them to leave.
