Shesh, So glad you wrote back tonight, I was thinking of you today and was wondering how you were getting along. My son is at the hotel now and also leaves for the Great Lakes tomorrow.  He texted me earlier and said "everything's good!" I was so happy to hear that, but then of course I started to cry again. Today was one of the saddest days of my life and I don't see tomorrow being much better.  I am exhausted from crying.  My son was fine until i started to cry then he looked very sad.  I need to pull myself together for him tomorrow morning when he gets sworn-in. He will get to stay with us for a short time in the morning before shipping out.  I am trying to stay strong, I really am, but it is so tough.  Your right tho, WE CAN DO THIS!

So glad you went over the first 48 hours with him. I also went over the whole 48 hour thing with my son a number of times.  I just wanted him to be prepared for the worst.  I think it will help our sons out by just knowing whats ahead.

Stay Strong, I will be thinking of you

I guess we are officially Boot Camp Moms now!!! This was SUCH a hard day. We ran errands and ate at our favorite Thai restaurant. At the phone store a woman overheard him telling that he needed to get a military hold for his phone. She thanked him for his service and then said, 'Hug your mom.' I hadn't cried until then. He isn't taking his phone but promised he would call when he gets to GL. I didn't get to take him to MEPS and won't see him the am so today was it until November. Shesh, I was numb on the way home too I kept wondering why I wasn't crying. Well, as soon as I got close to home the damn broke. I am just tired now.

I feel so blessed that we have each other.  Hang in there girls. Stay close!

Daughter leaving tomorrow Sept. 24 from Memphis.

My son is leaving tomorrow from Kansas City!

Annette, I have been stress cleaning too!!! My son flies out today.

I need to do that "stress cleaning" but don't want to vacuum in case the phone rings!  My son left for BC today and I think I might get a call but not sure.  Just been staring at the phone since I got out of work!  So proud of our sons/daughters!  Blessings to all!

Hi, My son left today from Boise,Id.

Wow.  It hadn't hit me that there might not be a group going from MEPS to BC together.  Glad to hear he made it OK.  I wonder how it was for my son.

My son said there were only six others in the van going down to GL.  I was kinda surprised by that.

Hi Gagesmom. I got my 10-15 second scripted call last night around 9pm (IL time). I could hear someone in the background telling him what to say and my son sounded good in his voice (which made me feel better!). There was 7 of them left out of Syracuse NY yesterday (one female and 6 males). I told them all to relaxe they will have fun and one kid said "I'm not sure what your definition of fun is... but I don't think this is going to be it!" & they were laughing. I overheard them all talking though about how they have to go into this remembering that whatever they say or do (whether they just told them to do something or not) will be wrong and to just do the best they can! Such a great group of Sailors to be! :) I'm so proud of everyone's kids (spouses, fiances or family members)!

What rating (job) is your son doing?

That's awesome! :) My son is doing Nuclear Engineering. Your son will certainly not be alone when he gets there! It still seems somewhat surreal to me that he actually has left lol! I am so thankful for this site... for all of the information and friends I have met for support. I have learned so much reading everything and also know there is A LOT more to learn! lol It will hopefully keep me busy though and make the time go faster! How old is your son? Mine is 18.

Well he made it to RTC last night. Received the call around 8pm. Today has been pretty good. Busy at work and came home to empty house and started stress cleaning
