According to the recruiter - mine will get there on a Thurs (10/3) and probably won't start P-days till Monday.  If I count 9 Fridays from then, we are @ Dec 6th.  Whatever day, we'll figure it out & be there with giant smiles :)

Bethin NY~  don't forget to keep a photocopy of his drivers license, many recruiters don't tell the parents (or wives) that if you needed to do most things on your son's behalf in regards to NYS DMV you need a photocopy of their license.   I found out the hard way when my older son was away @ boot camp.

I never thought about that 21anne, I'm so glad you mentioned it!

Have any of you filled out a medical and financial POA? I found several different types here on one of the main pages, but I'm not really sure which I should use.

I was going to do POA's, but my son is only 17 and will be 18 just before PIR.  When he gets to his A school, he will have to get POA's at the JAG office and mail it home to us.  If he was to sign now, it would not count,  we have say over all his medical and financial until he is 18 anyway.

Thanks !! Will do... didn't think of that .

It's nice to know there will some older guys there. Mine will turn 18 on Nov 27th . . . and although he is an independent guy, the older ones will provide some comfort/guidance, I'm sure. Todd is our second oldest, but has always had older friends and hung out with our male friends. He gets along better with the older guys. I'm getting antsy now, his Anchors Aweigh Party is tomorrow.

Have fun at the party!!  Some of my son's friends took him out the other night.  I got a Navy hat (you know the white uniform hat) and had them all sign it!

How did the party go?  I hope everyone had fun!!

The hat idea is great! Party went well. I was the only one not crying, lol! He got to say goodbye to a lot of people he wouldn't have seen otherwise.

He's been spending a lot of time with the girlfriend, birthdays to be expected. I can't believe it  almost time.

Ok Moms I don't know about you all, but the emotions that are swirling around right now are making me dizzy!!

I'm so excited for my son- 10/2 has been so far away and he has been so patient (we've been waiting since last December). Not once has he wavered about his decision to enlist. The time is here and his future starts. The pride I feel for this young man is bigger and stronger now than any other moment in his life.

And yet, my baby is leaving. My first born- the big brother in my house. Life is going to change for all of us. Every minute with him now is precious- a memory to hold on to.

How all of us moms are getting thru this is amazing to me- we are a strong bunch of women who love our children, our country and our families. My love to all of you and wish you strength over the next few days as we watch our babies depart

xoxoxox

You are not alone, thorgirl.  Last night I went to bed in quiet tears and this morning, I am fighting tears at work.

This is my youngest, my baby, who is the oldest 19 year old I have ever met in my entire life. Strong, faithful, a good head on his shoulders, moral, loyal, and funny as hell. My best friend who has stood beside me when his older brother strayed from our family and eventually came back to his senses.  I too am so very proud of him, my chest feels like it could burst!  As my sister said, he is such a light in all of our lives.  And now I am sending him off to be the light in the lives of others.

I'm sending big hugs out to all of us as we walk through these upcoming days.  Lots of emotions, lots of tears, lots of love, lots of pride.  "Navy Strong" does not just define our children; it holds true for us Moms, too!

Just a Bethin NY said "Nicely said"
