Welcome to our October adoptee announcement... drumroll please...

This month's adoptees are the crew of the mighty USS Shoup!

The crew has been  deployed for approximately 5 months and they are not turning back anytime soon. This is a small ship so they don't have access to many comfort items. They are in need of support from home to boost morale and spirit, we need to send them some love!

The Shoup crew is 300 strong and includes 60 females and 240 males.  They do have access to microwaves.

Let's send the taste and flavors of Fall---  include packaged apple goodies, pumpkin and spice treats, etc.

Their wish list includes:

-noodles
-beef jerky
-hygiene items (soap, shampoo, chap stick, hand sanitizer and deodorant)

-females: feminine products  (PLEASE PUT AN  "F",  for Female, ON THE OUTSIDE OF THE BOX)

I've found "pie in a jar" recipes on many different websites as well as the Molly's site so I'm thinking all will be fine.

The only pie that really has eggs is the pumpkin, I'm pretty confident all will be well. It's all cooked and with the sugar, I think it will be fine.

Donna, my plan is to bring the boxes ready to go, I will be at the packing party, the conflict I had has been moved to the following weekend so I'll be there with my packed boxes of pie!

I convinced the Freund Co. to sell me the jars at .80 per, so that helped!

My mission tonight is to do the math and figure out my ingredient list and then this weekend I'll be armed with my donation letter and will be trying to get as much as possible donated.

Next weekend I have my 3 sister in laws and another friend helping out.

They are all convinced we can rock this out, sooooo...... it's full steam ahead!

Great idea on the socks for packaging!

I happen to have a friend who is a sock designer who I'm going to hit up for socks!

I know this is an overly ambitious idea, but how can some of the sailors get pie and others not????

This is amazing, thanks again.  Please take plenty of pictures

Noodles? Like ramen?
I have some shampoo, body wash and deodorant that I will send. I'll also send snacks.
Thanks Kim!!!
I just got a phone call a local school will be sending a card or letter to each of the crew. Bless their hearts

LOVE IT!!

I just got word that Ralph Lauren will be donating 300 pairs of socks to pack the "pies in a jar" in!!!!!

I'm SO happy!

It's great to have wonderful friends to help me out when I get crazy ideas!!!

ALL the sailors on the Shoup will get pie and new socks!!!!!!!

Chellita, OMG!! THAT IS FABULOUS!!!!  You rock, mama!!!!!!!!

Please try to get a name and address so Molly's Adopt A Sailor can send a thank you letter!!

I absolutely have his name! The designer of leg wear at Ralph Lauren is one of my oldest and best friends.

I also have another friend(since kindergarten) who is a professional baker, who has figured out all the ingredients/recipe's for me.

My 3 sister in laws helping doing the baking and the owner of our favorite breakfast joint donating the flour, eggs and pumpkin!

The apples are coming from my parent's apple trees(which, by the way, haven't produced apples in many years yet miraculously have plenty to make this happen this year)

I am feeling extremely blessed by all the amazing people in my life who are making this crazy notion happen.

Everyone is anticipating photos, I'm sure it will be a sight!

Sounds like you are going to have a great time baking up a storm!!

Anyone that you would like to have a thank you letter sent, just PM me the name and address and I will get that done.

Great job!!!!

That is wonderful! Way to go!!!!

Chellita, love, Love, LOVE your "crazy" ideas!  Sheryl and I used to come up with some great ones too.  Crazy makes for more fun in my book.  So glad that you are going to be able to come on the 19th.
