For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either). Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

Hi there. My son shipped off to Boot camp 10/7/13. Today I called AT&T to ask about his cell phone service while at boot camp. I was able to put his plan on "vacation" stance (up to 180 days) and his plan charge will be only $10/month. I can call back when I have graduation date and they will lift vacation stance and reinstate full service as of that date. This was a great option because using the military suspension option would forfeit any grandfathered rates. I hope this helps other moms wondering what to do about cell bills.

I was going to do the same thing when my daughter went to BC, but she wanted to see all of her messages and phones calls while she was gone. So I left hers on.
Verizon does it free of charge, it puts the plan on hold until reinstated :) I've done this several times!
We have Verizon as well and I did the same. She actually is planning to get a new phone when she gets to "A" School.
the cell service is only 9.99 a month.. the internet is a bit more, but I opted to leave it alone as I wanted to be able to call and hear his voice and leave him voicemails. Although our AT & T rep told us putting it on military hold would not affect the account or his plan, so I really think it depends on who you talk to. I hate to call in and do things with them over the phone.
I tried and verizon wireless said i didn't have authority since it wasn't in my name and that i would need power of attorney and we didn't do that before she left..I was bummed
Kayla's mom, Call Verizon back and ask for a supervisor, let them know your daughter was unaware this could be done. I know you aren't on the account, but with the suspension even if is shouldn't be suspended the account holder could turn it right back on so...
