For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either). Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security
Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.
DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.
DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

Does he get to come home for Thanksgiving. I was thinking mine wouldn't (he arrived 10/8). We got the KIB yesterday (we weren't there, so we got something to sign for FedEx to deliver tomorrow). Gosh, how I'd LOVE to hear something from my son. You're really lucky!

No, he does not get to come home, this is if I want to go there and spend the day, like 9a to 8 p on Nov 28th with him. It's a possibility for me ,but his possible PIR date is Dec 6. So it doesn't make a lot of sense to travel and then turn around and do it again so quickly. Yesterday was Columbus day so no mail, and he did not arrive til 10/9. I just want the box, I want to touch his stuff. Doing laundry today and caught myself smelling one of his shirts to see if I could smell his cologne! I'm nuts....

If you have concerns get in touch with his recruiter.They are more than happy to answer any questions you may have. Hope this was of some help. The box usually takes about 1 1/2 weeks to arrive.Don't panic we will all help you. Right Mom's !!

We are all there with you, Blakesmom. I go in Bill's room ALL THE TIME and just sit on his bed, trying to feel or smell him in SOMETHING. We ALL miss our kids. It is SO HARD. Yesterday was the first day neither my husband nor I cried. (he'd kill me if he knew I told). Just think...when we get to see our kids, they will be MEN! I am so proud of my son. He got a degree, but since he could only find a lot of parttime jobs, he opted to go into the Navy. I'm hoping he'll get his Master's. These are some pretty special guys, and I know you're as proud of yours as I am of mine.

Hi,
My son shipped on Oct 16 and we just got his KIB today. I was so glad to read your post. I still go into my sons empty room to just sit. And cry sometimes. I cried when I smelled his shirt when I pulled it out of the KIB. lol Its hard for me to see his room empty where he spent so much of his time. I still get 4 plates out for dinner instead of 3 etc. Its been hard adjusting to life without him. He used to laugh and joke about how much we'd miss him when he was gone. He was so right..

What is the "Adopt a Sailor" program? Does someone let them spend Thanksgiving with their family? We are in Oklahoma, so I doubt my son will be home for Thanksgiving (first time). YUCK! I dread it!

The Adopt-A-Sailor program allows the recruits in the two TG's that will have PIR the next two weeks after Thanksgiving to spend Thanksgivinn with family or organizations in the area. They have to stay within 50 miles of the RTC.

I guess I spoke too soon, I got the box Tuesday afternoon, and the form letter Wednesday! Had my first letter in the mail this morning and am sending something every day. I also got an unexpected phone call..he said it was some sort of reward? He sounded awful! Said he is having a hard time, and he can't do anything right. Broke my heart! I tried to just tell him how proud I am of him, and reminded him how hard he worked to get there. I worried he will quit. I just kept telling him you have made it through the first week, and just keep hanging in there! Lord help us both make it through this!

That is great that you got all of those! Join PIR 12/06/2013 TG 04 to connect with others with loved ones training with your SR. The first few weeks are tough, but they will get better when he and his shipmates figure out that they need to work together.
