My son is stationed on the destroyer in Norfolk. Is there any wifi while he is at the base? I was hoping we could FaceTime or Skype before he ships out.

Alsmom1994- my son is also on a destroyer there he says there are computers that they can use but his does not have wifi for personal computers.
Dang it. I was really hoping he could face time with me and show me around his quarters.
He can email and FB on ship but when out at sea internet connection is spotty sometimes. While in port he can use his own computer around base.

Morning, I saw this and just texted my son . . . he said Building C-9 has a Five Guys, pool tables, Subway and free WiFi. He offered to help your son out if he can't find where it is. Msg me his contact info if you want my son to call/text him.

Also found this info online:

This map may help you point him in the right direction.

Thank you Ken,
I'm sure he will be thrilled to get this info.

Tell your son that Q-80 is the big gym down by the aircraft carrier piers. Great building! C-9 is close to Gate 2, near the chapel. Most people think of it as the food court. When we lived on the base, connections always seemed to run slow, so don't be dismayed if technology doesn't work as well as you hoped.

Hopefully by now you have had an opportunity to Skype.  They can't on ship - but like posted below they can go to the rooms provided and Skype from there. My son is on a Destroyer too.He usually sends me a text in advance so we can coordinate his Skype sessions.  Unfortunately, they are not very often, but I got to see him over the Holidays.
