So this will be my first move since my husband and I got married and I have Soooo many questions. He is at DLI and it's next to impossible to get info about anything from his chain if command here. I would really appreciate any and all advice about how it all works. I know the military covers a certain amount if expenses but is there something we have to do to have it covered? Is it given up front or will we be reimbursed? And does anything know exactly how much they cover?

Also my biggest question is about PCS with pets. I've found some options but they all seem to be really expensive just to transport our pet chinchilla from the west coast to the east coast? Can anyone provide a bit of insight as to how to go about moving our pet with us?

Thanks so much to anyone who can help I really appreciate it!

Pets are at your own expense.  Basically, the same way you move a vehicle... drive it cross-country.

He needs to ask for his Dislocation Allowance.  He'll be eligible for the "with dependents" rate if you were married before the orders were issued.

Thank you I'll start looking into that. And yes I know it would be at our own expense that is why I was asking for advice from people with pets to see how they went about and what the most inexpensive option might be. Especially considering my car is pretty old and I'm not sure how it would hold up on a cross country trip
We don't leave for another 4 months at the earliest I'm just a hyper-planner and want to figure it all out now lol

I always drive and my pups come with me. I really don't trust any business enough to take care of my animal. Especially after the last few issues I have seen with United. Let someone kill one of my babies because they didn't do their job...
