Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security
Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.
DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.
DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

**UPDATE 4/26/2022** Effective with the May 6, 2022 PIR 4 guests will be allowed. Still must be fully vaccinated to attend.
**UPDATE as of 11/10/2022 PIR vaccination is no longer required.

In light of observed changes and impact of the Coronavirus Delta Variant and out of an abundance of caution for our recruits, Sailors, staff, and guests, Recruit Training Command is restricting Pass-in-Review (recruit graduation) to ONLY fully immunized guests (14-days post final COVID vaccination dose).

Hi, I'm very new at this and I guess I made a comment on someone else's conversation. Sorry about that!! My son left today at 2:30. Anxiously awaiting his phone call saying he made it. He has been very adament that we not send him any letters. Says they will give him a hard time. I keep hearing that we should write as much as we can. I'm so nervous for him. I know he will do good. I think this is harder on me than it is him. I had a very rough time saying goodbye. :-(

My son also left this morning for the hotel! He gets sworn in tomorrow we will go see him then! My heart is broken.. He is my right arm.. Im so lost but so proud!

GrimmMom I think he will feel differently when he gets there. as long as you don't send stuff that draws attention - (like colored envelopes, Musical cards, glittery stuff) - then it should be acceptable and welcome. White letter paper, blue or black ink, nothing too thick or heavy. About the time you get his address, he will be starting to feel pretty homesick and will watch for his mail every week!

Thanks so much for the info. I forgot to send a calling card with him. His call last night was from his cell phone and very short. It was good to hear from him though.

Yes, they do get a calling card in their ditty bag and they can buy another one if needed, but it is also good to have an activated one (or the free ones from callsforrecruits.org). See Phone Cards and Phone Calls.

Go ahead and write! He WILL love it, I guarantee it. keep it all very light- send jokes, funny comics that you can print from your computer. Boot camp can be lonely and he will be cheered by letters from home- everyone else will be getting them too.

Write encouraging letters and share things from home. He will need and appreciate them. See Letter Writing & Fun Stuff/Questionnaires to send to your Recruit.
As far as where you post, post anywhere that it is appropriate. If another person has something similar, it is perfectly fine to add on. We do encourage you to check the date before replying and make sure that what you are commenting on is recent, but other than that, posting in another person's discussion is perfectly fine.
