Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security
Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.
DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.
DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

**UPDATE 4/26/2022** Effective with the May 6, 2022 PIR 4 guests will be allowed. Still must be fully vaccinated to attend.
**UPDATE as of 11/10/2022 PIR vaccination is no longer required.
**UPDATE 7/29/2021** You now must be fully vaccinated in order to attend PIR:
In light of observed changes and impact of the Coronavirus Delta Variant and out of an abundance of caution for our recruits, Sailors, staff, and guests, Recruit Training Command is restricting Pass-in-Review (recruit graduation) to ONLY fully immunized guests (14-days post final COVID vaccination dose).

Leaving July 9, 2014
My daughter just started her Senior year in HS but took her oath this past June. She is excited and I am extremely proud of her. She knows what she'll be doing (F/T cook) and even though she wasn't looking forward to that job at first, she is starting to think it's a great opportunity for her now. I am not too nervous right now as her departure isn't for another 10 months, but I'm glad to have found a community that can help me understand what will be going on and encourage and uplift me as the date gets closer. I am looking forward to being a more active participant in this group.

Welcome! You will definitely find this site is indispensible. Everyone here is so helpful and definitely understanding. My son also swore into DEP in June. He is finishing his Senior year and will ship out to BC two weeks after graduation on 7/1. Even though we have a lot of time left, it seems to be flying by so quickly. That is so GREAT that your daughter is excited about her future in the Navy. My son is anxious to get this school year over with and get started on his life. If he could go now...he would be thrilled. Looking forward to the journey ahead.

That's funny because that is exactly what my son is doing. He brags to all of his friends about how he just has to breeze through this year of HS and that the rest of his future is all set. I have twins and it's a whole different story for his brother. We have a LOT of work to do to help him get done what is necessary for his future. So grateful I don't have to do it for both of them.

Very true. I think I kinda phrased my comment wrong. He understands that the path ahead of him is going to take a lot of hard work and determination. I was mostly referring to the fact that he doesn't have to think about what he wants to be or how he will get there like his college-bound friends. Even this last year of high school is far from a breeze. The Navy has a set path for him and he is ready to accept the challenge ahead of him and that's why I'm so proud he made this decision.
And if your comment about running is referring to getting himself in shape, we signed him up for a gym membership as soon as he swore in. He has been going 2-3 times a week. He needs it as he's just a tall skinny kid. LOL -

Welcome! Excited to read your post. My son is Leaving July 9, 2014. He is a senior this year as well, seems like they are on the same path. My son will be a Machinist Mate.(MM). This is our first experience with a child in the military--it is all so new! We are very happy he choose this path. I am sure throughout the year we will be keeping up to date. I keep thinking about that "10 month time" and I am happy to find people who are going through it. Enjoy your daughter's senior year! With sports in our house time flies so fast. Take care!

My son swore into DEP this past Thursday, he's a senior in college, I wanted him to finish his 4yr degree 1st, but he says he's only doing an associates, he leaves on the July15 2014, he will be a Construction Mechanic ( CM), I am so excited for him, He's ready for the challenge. I am so proud of him.

Welcome proudmom01...Sounds like joining the Navy is the best choice for son's future. Sometimes they need to figure out that one path isn't right for them before they realize what the right path is. We are all in this amazing journey together. It's comforting to see more Moms join as time progresses so we can all help each other along.

HI!! I'm new to this site and saw your son is leaving the same day as mine! How exciting and nerve racking at the same time. I'm trying to stay positive but this is my last child leaving the nest so it's definately going to be difficult. I'm hoping to be able to give and receive support through all of this :)

my son.is also a high school senior who will begin his Navy career on July 9th . he will be in the nuclear program. I am very proud of his.decision, but scared to death at the same time.

I have the same feelings as you. The way I do not get scared is that I realize how strong of a conviction my son has. I really feel this is where he is meant to be. God will take care of everything. The things I get more nervous about are the uncertain things...where will he live, when can I see him, etc. We just have to let it all unfold and see what God has in store. Also-I have my son ask the recruiter a lot of questions. My son is going to be a Machinist Mate. They had wanted him to go into the nuclear program, but he wanted to do a different type of engineering.

I have a question, my son was told his starting on July 9. There are others starting July 8. I don't understand why it would be a one day difference-do you? We live in WI so could it be that we are close to IL?

When they get their ship date, many usually leave the day before unless you are really close to MEPS. My son's ship date is July 1, but he will actually leave June 30 for MEPS as it is a 6hour drive. He will stay in a hotel overnight and go to MEPS early the next morning and will fly out that afterrnoon for Great Lakes.
