Welcome to the Division Discussion for Divisions 051 and 052

These two divisions are brother divisions and will be training together from the beginning through BS21 their final test. Your SRs, soon to be SAILORS, are becoming friends, and some of them may be heading to A School together.

Get to know each other, your SRs are!

Please still use the Main Wall of the PIR Group to post questions, and concerns, we “veteran” moms don’t always get to into the discussion area as often as we would like.

Every single question that is asked is important Every single concern is genuine Every single member is important to us We don't want to accidentally overlook any of them or you.

Hang in there!!!

Hope your son gets over the sickies quickly. The first call I got, T sounded congested and miserable. On Saturday, he said he was over it.....seems like it is a short-lived virus. Of course, that "peanut butter" shot they all get should kill off any bug!

Thanks! I hope he gets over it quick, too! I'm glad your son got over it fast!

Most of the SRs get sick when at bootcamp...temporarily compromised immune systems from way too many shots at once (in my opinion)...including the flu shot, which can sometimes bring on a few symptoms---and lots and lots of people in a confined space, lots of germs!.  My son was/is one who never gets sick...doesn't go to drs---tries to stay healthy naturally....and he got sick when there...the RDCs are understanding of this and usually will give them some light duty until they feel a little better.  Hope all who are sick get well soon!  And tell them to watch out for that nasty pink eye (tell them to keep their hands away from their eyes)!  That goes around too...and will keep them from doing BattleStations with their division if they contract it right before (no worries...they get drops, clear it up, and go with another division).

diannep, thank you for your advice and all your help! My son is generally very picky about cleanliness, but it is hard to say how diligent he is with all the stuff they are involved at boot camp. I will be sure to let him know about pink eye! Thanks, again! :)

Hi All! My son in law is Ship 03/Div 051. My daughter FINALLY received two letters this past Friday! She was overjoyed to get them!! He also called for the second time on Saturday - it was pretty late in the evening when he called. I think she said it was about 10:45 pm in Great Lakes! Hope all of your (our) sons are doing well this week and finding this to be a positive experience!!!! Prayers for all!!

Nice to "meet" you. You should encourage your daughter to join the group if she hasn't already. Sounds like this week is going to be a tough one....what week isn't, right? Praying for all our loved ones...".

Hi! Welcome! Nice to meet you! We will definitely be praying for all these guys! Such a huge step (leap) for all of them! :D

Hi ya'll! My name is Catherine. My son is in DIV 051. He's 18. It's funny to me that when my exhusband went off to basic (a LONG time ago) I wasn't this worried. I guess it's different when it's your child. I've heard from my boy by phone twice now. He's having a difficult time. It's his first time away from home for this long. He seems to be struggling with PT and he's constantly worried he's going to be sent home or recycled. I don't know what to tell him to comfort him. I know he's giving his all, but I don't know how to gauge what is just being homesick and what is just part of the basic training experience. My husband (his stepdad) is a disabled vet (Army) and says what my son is going through is perfectly normal. I didn't mean to ramble. I really just meant to say hi. Lol
Hey Catherine. My son is 18 as well (just turned in August) and is doing this away from home thing for the first time too. I wish there were a way to connect the guys the way we are connecting here. I have encouraged my son to find at least one person who can provide mutual encouragement and motivation. I think it is too easy for them to find people to gripe with....and I am sure there is plenty to gripe about. The book of Proverbs in the Bible has helped encourage me a lot through this. Anyway, now I am rambling....welcome to the group

What day in August? My son's birthday is August 9th. I have plenty to keep myself busy here. I am my husband's VA Caregiver, so there's lots of VA appointments going all the time. If that weren't enough we have 5 kids between us (3 are his, 2 are mine, but they are all OURS)...I told my son the same thing. I told him if he was having a tough time with PT he should find someone else who is too and they should work to keep each other encouraged and working hard.

Mine is August 21. Originally, he was to go to BC in July. I was not happy about him going as a 17 year old. God fixed that with a knee and thumb injury (wrestling) that required surgery and delayed his 'delayed entry'. We have two younger kids too. I think my SR (the oldest) is missing his younger siblings more than he thought he would....makes me laugh. He and his sister would fight like cats and dogs and now she is sleeping with his navy shirt tucked under her pillow.

Hi Catherine! Welcome to our little group!  My name is Angie.  My son is very homesick even though he is 20....he misses his siblings, too, and all of us.  He was very emotional on Saturday when he called, and he is not a crier.   He is so afraid of being held back, too.  He said he knew it would be hard, but I know he didn't realize how hard.  I am really hoping for a more upbeat phone call from him next time.  I hope your son also begins to feel more upbeat about it, as well!  They have come so far already!
