We have a mission to "ZAP" some new energy into the "ZAPPERS"!
This group of sailors is in need of some serious tender loving care that only we could provide! They are half way through a ten month deployment.
The "Zappers" are an airborne electronic attack squadron who fly and maintain the EA-18G Growlers, and are responsible for providing support for Navy, Marine, Army, Air Force and Coalition Forces. This is one busy group and they are far from home.
The Zappers are based out of Whidbey Island, Washington and they are currently deployed with CVN75, Harry S. Truman, a Norfolk, Virginia based aircraft carrier, currently under the command of 5th Fleet. We all know where 5th Fleet is so we know their living conditions.
There are many sailors in this group who don't receive any packages, cards or letters from home. Some sailors have resorted to, "ordering stuff online or sending each other stuff in effort to keep the morale up".
As we prepare for the holiday season decorating, writing cards, baking cookies, let's BAKE A BATCH FOR THE ZAPPERS!
They would love to have a touch of home. Homemade cookies, a hand written letter, a child's drawing...all of these will mean so much to this group. The carrier isn't their real home and at times they feel like house guests who have overstayed their visit. Let's make them feel welcomed and loved!
Here are the details;
Total sailors: 146, which is comprised of 125 males and 21 females.
Top Requested Items;
Food, (especially homemade treats, jerky and sunflower seeds)
Feminine Hygiene Products (21 females)
Pictures & Letters
Coffee and Creamer (I will ask if they have access to a coffee maker or if they are requesting single serve packets)
Deodorant, Lotion, Wipes, Tide Pods
They access to a fridge and microwave but no freezer. (so freezer pops are out)
They also have access to a DVD and CD player.
Pillowcases are a GO for the Zappers!
Let's make this adoption a wonderful way to transition to the new year
Shipping Dates -
December 20th & 21st (or as close to that as possible)
Thank you all in advance for your help with the December adoption!

Awesome Laura!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Great group to be selected
This makes me so sad! Poor babies - ordering stuff on-line so they get something & sending to each other. I'm not sure what I can do, but I will figure out something and let you know. Even if it is as simple as baking an extra batch of cookies or whatever I'm baking. I will get back to you.
Count me in for some homemade cookies, dvds (they have some for great prices right now at Target).
We will get these sailors some MOM LOVE! I'll get the pillowcases taken care of!
Count me in for sure to help! Have some ideas already! :-)
Ok this one really touches me. My sailor (completed her enlistment) was with a VAQ squadron out of Whidbey Island, and attached to a carrier on the East Coast, she probably knows a few of these sailors. Let me see what I can come up with and get something out to them. Think I need to engage my Navy vet on this one!
We are in for this one. I have a variety of things we have left over from packing boxes over the last two months that we can put together and send these guys.
Carol
Would they like Girl Scout cookies? I live in the state of CT and the GS council here has more cookies to give away. Please let me know.
This sounds like fun! I would love to help. What's the process? I know I emailed before, but things kept coming up. I just moved a month ago and started a new job. I want to get involved for Christmas though. Please send me directions on what the process is. Thanks.
THANK YOU, THANK YOU!
We are off to a great start!
Kim - When you said that you would get the pillowcases covered, did you mean all 146 of them?!
Donna - Girl Scout cookies would be great! Just be selective. The temperature out there this time of year doesn't get much below 75 degrees, at the coolest. Chocolate chip would be Ok but I think the chocolate covered peanut butter ones might not hold up so well.
2catsn2sailors - No worries, this is an easy process. The hardest part is deciding what to send; cookies, cards, letters, sunflower seeds, lots of options. If the items you pick are heavy, you might want to pack them in a special military flat rate box. It is cheaper for heavy items. If the items you ship are light weight, then it might be cheaper to pack them in an ordinary brown box.
The ship dates will be posted here, the address will be posted on another link, for security.
I posted on the We Stitch Love discussion and on our Facebook page. As a group WE STITCH LOVE will get them covered!
