Hello!!!

My Fiance is set to hopefully graduate Basic  on 10JAN2014 and is heading close to home for this for sure A School. I was told that between the schools A through C School he would get a break between school to travel home. I'm not sure if this is correct or not. I graduated in the Air Force and just used to how that all went and what goes on, this is a different world for me.

So would he get time between each schooling? If he gets any about how much time would he get? Would he be able to travel home during this time and just a side question while in A School and I have a basic understanding with how the Phasing Program goes it's never stated if he would be able to visit hotels or not and if they have a mile radius from how far they can't leave the base? I know so many questions, I'm sorry. I'm just trying to figure out how long his school with be, what time he will get off and if we will be able to plan a wedding date any time in the fear future!

But if anyone knows if any of the A Schools in Pensacola and how they work he is going to be a AE (I believe?) I'm desperate to try and plan a somewhat hard date to tell people.

Welcome to the Navy.  Take everything you've been taught about planning a wedding and toss it out the window.  Flexibility and creativity will be your friends.  Whatever you do, do NOT put any money down on anything.  You may end up doing this on the fly.

Student can leave base in any phase, but only phase three can have overnights on weekends (if they don't have duty). He must have a liberty buddy, but should be able to put in a chit requesting that it is you.  They cannot go more than 300 miles from the base.  (That's the Great Lakes limit, but every training command is pretty similar).

He should get about a week after A school, but if he has a  C school which begins immediately, he may be required to take leave after that school instead.  There is no way to know this for sure beforehand.

You won't have a hard date to give out.  The A school is always longer than the stated seat time, and there's no way to predict precisely how long the school will be.  Plus, there is a chance he will be on hold after school waiting for orders.  Even if you can fond those who have been through AE, that's no guarantee your sailor will experience the exact same thing.  Doesn't mean you can't find out what others have gone through, and use that to your advantage, but A school is tricky to predict.

One solution you see a lot is the fiance flying down to Pcola and doing a courthouse wedding to get the paperwork done, then having a reception at home, and maybe a renewal of vows in front of family.  Or you can try for a small venue with flexible dates (neighborhood church).  Honestly, don't spend a lot of money.  You will need every penny for your first move.  Even if the Navy pays to move you, which doesn't always happen, you will need out of pocket expenses and start up money for your new apartment.

Congrats!

There's a forum on Reddit, r/newtothenavy, and you should read the discussion by an AE there right now.  Looks like the hold times are quite long at the moment.

I don't know many people that get to come home between A school and C school out of my husbands friends that have had a c school. I am pretty sure the liberty limits in pcola is 300 as well.. I cant be for sure. He can visit hotels, with a liberty buddy. He might be able to request you do it before yall get married he might not. And don't lie about that. My husband was allowed to leave with me the first day I got to pcola because we were going to the courthouse directly to get married. They can go pretty much anywhere within bounds that isn't on the banned list. Which they will drill into them where they cannot go. Don't get caught there. He will get in trouble.

google Escambia county how to get married and start preparing everything you will need to go that route if yall decide. I got married in pcola so you can ask me any questions directly about that. :)

Were you able to go to the courthouse on the weekend or did you have to do it during the week? My fiancé and I are discussing the idea of the courthouse ceremony and a church wedding later. So far we are quickly finding out how difficult it is to plan a wedding around A school and C school.

We were able to go during the week. He got done with classes about 2 pm and they had liberty call about 3/315ish and then we rushed to the courthouse and got there in time to get it taken care of that day. To get married the same day neither of you can be FL residents and you have to be there by 4!

Sorry to say, but that time is so far off, that things change and no one knows what the policys will be and also he could just go from "A" School to "C" School.

Also not everyone gets a "C" School, so he could just go from "A" School to a week or so of leave to his first duty station.
