For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either). Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security
Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.
DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.
DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

**UPDATE 4/26/2022** Effective with the May 6, 2022 PIR 4 guests will be allowed. Still must be fully vaccinated to attend.
**UPDATE as of 11/10/2022 PIR vaccination is no longer required.
**UPDATE 7/29/2021** You now must be fully vaccinated in order to attend PIR:
In light of observed changes and impact of the Coronavirus Delta Variant and out of an abundance of caution for our recruits, Sailors, staff, and guests, Recruit Training Command is restricting Pass-in-Review (recruit graduation) to ONLY fully immunized guests (14-days post final COVID vaccination dose).

Cost of Meals
Hi,
Does anyone know if the kids eat free while at A school in Sam Huston? If they don't do you know when they have to pay and how much it would be? I read on one forum that they are charged at the end of A school, however my son is telling me that meals are free and no charge. I just don't want him to have a huge surprise at the end of the month, or school for that matter.

Our son graduated back in June and is about to graduate from his C school at the same base. They will receive meals, but they are charged for them. They don't charge them when they eat, but they take it out of their pay. They also receive extra money in their pay to cover the cost they are charged, so it comes out even. Our son said the food regularly made him and others sick, so they opted out of base meals and get the BAS funds to use for groceries. Hope this helps!

They give them about $300 extra each month in their pay, and then take out the same amount for the cost of meals.

You get an allowance for food if you don't get a meal card. A meal card allows you to eat at a mess hall on base, the allowance you can use to eat anywhere or buy some groceries.

What steps does my sailor need to do to opt out of the monthly withdrawal so he can use the money to buy groceries??

Glad to see what you wrote about your son and friends getting sick. My son, who graduated in July, said almost exactly the same thing throughout his time at FSH. It was about his only complaint. I gave him a bunch of cr@p for being a pansy about not being able to eat it but since then, have found many of the same comments.
It must really be bad food if 19-22 yr. old young men won't eat it. Jeeesh.
