DEPARTING SAILORS

This group of sailors is classified as those who graduate boot camp and are ready to ship to their A School OUTSIDE of the Great Lakes Command Area the next day.

These sailors will be available immediately after graduation (10:35 am) and can leave the RTC if they don't have duty watch. They can ride to the hotels in shuttles/taxis or your personal vehicle.

Must be back on the toe-line NO LATER THAN 20:00hrs (8pm) Check with your Sailor.

I do not recommend going to Chicago for several reasons:

1. Time is limited. The traffic will take an hour to drive to Chicago and at least an hour and one half to drive back to Great Lakes during rush hour (3:30pm-7:00pm)

2. The earliest metra train to Chicago from the GL Train station departs at 11:17am. The ride is about an hour and 15 minutes.

3. The latest train (to ensure the Sailor gets back in time) from Chicago to GL leaves Ogilvie Transportation Center at 6pm

4. Sailors CAN NOT be late. The Navy will not accept any excuse for a Sailor missing their muster on Friday evening. There are severe consequences should they be late.

Some ties a Sailor may have duty (WATCH) Check with your Sailor to ensure he gets back to RTC on time. Keep in mind that there will be long traffic lines to return your Sailor to Gate 6 that evening. Allow enough time for traffic and their walking time. Gate 6 is located on Buckley road (route 137) and Illinois Street.

Sailors that return that evening CAN NOT bring their cell phones or any other non-issued items.

Please make sure they have their I.D. cards, Identification Tags (Dog Tags), and their gear.

GREAT LAKES A-SCHOOL STUDENTS

This group of Sailors are those who graduate and will be assigned to the Great Lakes Naval Training Station A-Schools right after graduation.

These  Sailors will be immediately available after graduation and you will only have about 20-30 minutes with them. These Sailors will go back to their boot camp barracks and then they will be processed out of boot camp barracks and reassigned to the Great Lakes Naval training 1Station on Main side. They will be bussed across the street to Main side and in-docked to their new home for the next 10-365 days of training.

Once they are processed into their new ships (barracks) they will be available around 15:00 hrs (3pm) and you can meet them at the main Gate #1.

Remember their return time to their ship (toe-line) will be at 22:00 hrs (10pm). Check with your Sailor for their return time, each ship has different requirements. They will also most likely have liberty on Saturday and Sunday starting at 07:00 (7am) and ending at 22:00 hrs (10pm) if they don't have duty. If you plan on picking them up or dropping off at their ships during that weekend, YOU MUST HAVE THE GATE PASS if you are driving. If you are using a taxi no gate pass is required.

You can give your Sailor their cell phone that Friday night when they return. Please have them program my cell phone # 847-212-0246 in their phones so I can assure you that they will be well taken care of after you depart the area. I have a special rewards card for them so they can save on taxi fares while they are at Great Lakes for their A school. Please get one from me at the Meet and Greet. I promise to take good care of them while they are here at Great Lakes.

VERY IMPORTANT-Make sure your Sailor has their liberty card, map of the ship areas, I.D. tags, I.D. cards, and their glow belts (issued at in-dock) when you return them to the main gate. If they loose any of these items they can be denied liberty for the remainder of the weekend. There are serious consequences for loosing liberty cards and I.D. cards or military gear.

There are many fine restaurants that offer free meals for your Sailor on graduation day when they are accompanied by family members who also order a meal.

Trattoria Italian Restaurant 602 N. Milwaukee Ave. Libertyville, IL. 847-247-2208 (reservations recommended) http://www/.trattoriapomigilano.com

Bertucci's Italian Steak House- 246 Green Bay Rd. Highwood, IL. 847-432-6663 (reservations recommended) http://bertuccisitaliansteakhouse.com

**Most free meals do not include the steak fish or veal**. There are several shopping malls around the area. Gurnee Mills offers over 500 stores, 30 restaurants/fast foods, and 20 movie theaters all under one roof.

Sorry there was a part I missed that goes after the departing Sailors and before the Sailors staying at GL.

You must have your gate pass if you are driving them back on RTC that evening. If you need round trip taxi service from your hotel for you and your Sailor, set arrangements with me(Sarge) or your cab driver prior to 4:00pm Friday afternoon. Friday night cab service is tough if you don't make reservations especially on pay-day weekends.

You can meet your Sailor at the airport the next morning if you wish to spend more time with them before they depart. Your Sailor will know at graduation time what airport they are going to, the time their bus departs from RTC, and the airline. You CAN NOT transport your Sailor to the airport nor are they allowed to leave the airport once they have checked in.

The bus will drop the Sailors off at Door 2B-UL (terminal 2) at O'Hare. Those flying out of Midway will be dropped off at Entry #1

Round trip to the airport to see your Sailor is available at a fair price. To O'Hare $99.00 round trip and Midway $160.00 round trip.

I also have other prices for Sarge if you need any other prices you can pm me your hotel or what airport your going to or you can call Sarge directly 847-212-0246
