Hello! I live in San Diego and my sailor is just starting the processes of boot camp in a week he will leave. There is a lot to do out here! Do you know what part of San Diego you will be living?

Im in san diego right now(: what base will you be at?

nice!  there's a lot to do in san diego!  the beaches are all great, as is balboa park, the zoo and all the museums, there are a lot of local farmer's markets, sea world, cruises that take you on tours around SD, la jolla cove, birch aquarium, and tons of amazing restaurants.  There's also a great night life with a great variety of bars and clubs depending on what you like.  we're also really close to six flags, lego land, LA, and touristy places like old town and seaport village.  the downside is that it's really expensive here, everything from gas to rent, groceries and just every day life adding up, before be prepared to make a budget. and TRAFFIC.  i've seen more accidents in the two years i've been here than i did my entire 22 years before and have spent easily an hour driving somewhere that should have taken 20 minutes. also if you plan on working expect a tough job market, there's a lot of competition and not a whole lot of jobs, depending on your field.  also, depending on where you're moving from you might go through a little culture shock (i did, crazy bad - i cried IN the grocery store.  ugh haha)  i'm not too sure about specific groups but it looked like some other posts had some good ones.  good luck with everything!

Im n san diego and agree with miss magoo. Theres plenty to do depending on what u want to do. When will you be getting here?
Have him start the housing process. I recommend staying in base housing because san diego is so expensive
@ a.foertsch we will be living in mission valley

@ courtney he is stationed at 32nd st base. Do you like it out there? What do you do to keep busy?

@ smo's wife unfortunately i dont have a facebook. Are any other groups or forums?

@ miss magoo wow that does sound like alot. Also i huge on budgeting already so that shouldnt be to big of a problem for me. Im coming from maryland so im expecting to have a major culture shock lol but still excited to experience something new.. amd wow i hope it wont be too hard to find a job. I definitely plan on working.

@mrs rackley i will be there jan 31st. We will be staying in mission valley. Ru doing base housing?

What ship? My husband is at 32nd. The beaches are really nice, even though its a little cold. Lol. There is a ton of shopping, the zoo and sea world that are really close.

Like everyone else there are lots of things to do in SD i was born and raised here.... And let me tell you there will be culture shock in many places... When my hubby got stationed in south east virginia that was a huge change & culture shop for me... As far as it being expensive it is to an extent, but there's A LOT of places to get good deals on ALL different types of things. Such as swap meets discount stores and soo much more just have to know where to go.
There is a lot to do but I live in Imperial Beach so I have to travel if I want to do anything lol
How did you guys go about making new friends and meeting new people?

don't worry about the job thing too much, it just took me a while and i ended up settling on a job that was way less than i was making before and a lower level and i've heard similar things from others.

i made new friends through my husband, getting together with some of the wives of his friends, group get togethers etc.  also, i got a job in retail as well as a job at a hospital, and eventually ended up going back to school.  it was hard at first b/c i was used to just knowing people and friends being friends with everyone but putting myself out there and taking risks has really paid off - i love the friends i have here!
