Choose your Username. For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either). Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security
Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.
DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.
DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

Son in DEPS not leaving until Sept. 2014
Hi. I am quite new and have learned a lot from this wonderful site! My son has been excepted into the NUKE program. He does not leave until September. We are very proud and excited for him, but this is a really long wait. Thank you to everyone for all of their educational posts!

Hi Matt's Mom! My son leaves in July, just two weeks after high school graduation. He swore into DEP last June. You will find so much useful info on N4M and the Nuke Moms site. Everyone has always been so helpful. Make sure you check out the Nuke FAQ section and the discussion in the Nuke Moms group on when your Sailor arrives at Goose Creek to prepare for what happens after bootcamp. You should also join the DEP group for recruits leaving in September so you can connect with others leaving at the same time. Hold on tight for the emotional roller coaster and just keep making special memories until it's time for him to go to BC.

hello!
my son has been in for 2 1/2 years now. he is a nuke MM on a submarine. he hasn't gone out on deployment yet. he was a depper for a year. he left in july of 2011. two days before my birthday! we were proud of him them and even prouder of him now!! I would like to say good luck to both of your sons!! this site is full of info. I am very grateful for it.

My son was in DEP for just a few days short of a year, so I know how that is. Your son will have plenty of time to prepare. It will really help if he is able to pass the PFA before he ships out.

hello!!
I might suggest that he practice swimming if he cant. you would be surprise how many join the navy and not able to swim. my son couldn't swim very well. it took him 6 times to pass the swim test. it just shows they really work with them.

My son is a decent swimmer, but when the weather warms up he will work on his swimming. Thanks for the great advice!

Excuse my butting in here, but you'd be surprised how unimportant swimming is. Yes, you have to be able to swim 25 or 50 yards without touching the bottom or something, and it has to be a "real" swimming stroke -- not doggy paddle -- but I don't think it is timed. It your son were pre-BUDS, I'd say that he should train like an ironman triathelete, but he may find the run and calisthenics to be more challenging if he is already a decent swimmer.

my son leaves for Basic on the 19th after 9 months in DEP. It has been a long wait and while he is in excellent physical condition I wonder if he is totally ready. he doesn't say much and when he does he tells me not to worry..lol. He will be in the nuke program as well after Basic. This info is great as I have so many questions!
