My boyfriend got to Pensacola A School on the 25th of January. I still have not heard anything from him. I don't know if I should be worried at this point or what. I have read where he should have access to a phone. I know he was in Indoc for the first week. This is the end of week two. I would like to think if he could, he would call. I know he is not the kind of guy to just stop communication. Has anyone gone through this? Does anyone have sailors in A School that came in around the 25th? And in Avionics?? My stomach is in knots!

Thank you.  As for being insensitive, trust me, I have held back.  It is not a pretty situation, and there are few excuses for no contact in his situation which are noble and honorable.  Which is why I hope he has the flu.  Anything else is just sad, and does not bode well for a long distance relationship.

She needs to be honest with herself...

Would you have us lie to her?  Tell her it is okay, he'll call soon?  Say nothing so she has no clue what is realistic and what she imagines?

Support doesn't always mean hand holding, there there sweetie, it will be okay.   Support can mean providing a realistic look at the situation by people who have been there.  Then she can ask the right questions... talk to his parents is a realistic option.  About her only option at this point.

I am not going to blow smoke up her ass... she knows something isn't right or she wouldn't be asking.   Her idea of what is happening is not realistic, and it is difficult to give comforting reasons why else he isn't calling.   I'm sorry she is bummed and stressed.

With this being a weekend, I'm sure he can find a way to get in touch.  He has one or two full days off, so he has plenty of opportunity to call.  It will be nice to hear they worked it out.

Wow.  Thanks for the "asshole".   Very sensitive.

But hey, this is the internet, so I know every reply has to be weighed to see if it applies or not, as every situation is different.  I'm good with being direct, and laugh at what you call "worst possible conclusions".  I never do put the very worst of what I've seen firsthand, it is far too ugly for this board.  For the record, you're reading a lot into my replies... very curious responses on your part.  Interesting how intense they are.

Take care, oh, and lighten up.  You are coming off as holier than thou and a know it all when you post personal attacks.  I never, ever call anyone names, as that is just childish behavior.  You are better than that, yeah?

Anti M and Angie get attacked on here a lot, but you've probably dug into them the worst I've ever seen. Nice to see you're such a nice sensitive person!

Anti M and Angie provide realistic advice based on their many, many years of experience in and with the Navy. They know how things work, they're not here to coddle the girlfriends or wives, we tend to do that for each other. Anti M and Angie are here to help those out who are clueless, give them realistic expectations as to what Navy life will be like, and answer technical questions. Many, many times they have helped me out personally. You learn not to expect the "It'll all work out in the end" from them. They're not our mothers, they are not here to make us feel better, they are here to give us their first hand experiences which are incredibly invaluable.

I personally think you are in for quite the rough ride with the Navy, and I wish you the best of luck!

Thanks Emily.  LOL, not everyone is a fan, but we grow on folks.  I think I may have touched your nerves a few times, but you understood it wasn't personal.

Hey, today is my 27th anniversary with my now retired sailor man.  We made it through snail mail and rare autovon calls only.  He had to leave this morning for his job, I may get to see him in a couple days, or maybe a week.  Good thing I have all this practice!

If you touched my nerves, I needed it, and it wasn't anything that I remember :)

And Happy Anniversary!! Enjoy the celebration whenever he comes home!

Ha, I can't recall exactly who I pissed off when, so I assume it was everyone at some time.

^  Ditto :)

Thank you Emily...
