OPSEC - Navy Operations Security
Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.
DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

Is he a 3C Midshipman (College Junior)? Everyone who has included aviation (Pilot or Naval Flight Officer) on their list of desired service assignments will be sent for a flight physical to weed out those who do not qualify physically. Then they will choose from among those that do pass the physical. So, no it does not mean that he will get that option. When my son went for his flight physical 7 Mids from his unit went, and only 3 passed the physical to qualify for pilot. Of those 3, only one got Pilot, and one got Naval Flight Officer. Another person who did not pass the physical due to eyesight also got Naval Flight Officer.

I can see that it must be a very in depth physical. What are some of the issues they run into? Do many not pass the physical?

really? Our son has never been told to gather all his medical records. This has me a bit concerned. The only time he will be home before commissioning is for Easter -- and medical records won't be open on Easter! The only medical records his Unit is telling him to make sure he has are the records from the eye doctors & surgeon that did his PRK surgery. No one has said anything about getting records from hospitals, etc.

We have been fortunate to have an emergency room free life with our son, but he did have one knee issue when he ran track. He had physical therapy for 6 weeks, not even surgery. I had to go back and get all of those records. So I would take the time now to gather all medical records so you have them all put together when you need them.

Son passed flight physical on Wednesday. yay!!
He wasn't told to gather any past health/medical records, except those connected to his PRK eye surgery, which he already had.
Perhaps the difference is he's only been to the ER once & it was for an appendectomy -- 13 years ago ?!? Hope that's it cuz he won't be home again, except for Easter, before Commissioning!

I asked my son about the physicals. If they had a flight physical during their Junior year, he believes they forward those records to suffice for the Pre-Commissioning physical. So he produced everything last year when he had that physical.
My son said I can share the ROD (Regulations for Officer Development) with the Moms because it is not classified (FODO - for official distribution only). Whenever he has a question about anything ROTC related it is the first place he looks because it is like the ROTC bible. See Chapter 5 for Medical Requirements.
