For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either). Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security
Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.
DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.
DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

I may stand corrected but I think a Federal Holiday is a P-Hold day. My son arrived 2.12.14 and I know all of this bad weather has caused delays in other recruits arriving. Hurry up and wait...

Ok this is probably a stupid question but what is a P hold day...my son will be a boot camp over Labor Day what do they do on those days?

- "P-hold" - If you're on P-hold it is because you will be waiting for more people to arrive so you have a full division. "P-day" and "P-Hold" do not count as being in boot camp". These days do not count towards your 8 weeks of training. These are just "dead days". Once you have a full division you will start your P-days.

BTW, there are actually 6 weeks of training for all recruits regardless of when they arrive, not 8. The average time that a recruit is at the RTC is 8 1/2 weeks (9 Fridays), but some can be at the RTC for as few as 7 weeks (but it usually works out to 8 Fridays) and some can be there for 10 weeks (but it is usually 10 Fridays). See Arrival and What Happens at the RTC.
P-Hold can happen at the beginning of P-days or at the end of P-days--or in the middle as is the case for a weekend.

2navykids, Labor Day is a federal holiday, but not a religious holiday, so it will be treated much like a Saturday and will be a HOLD day. Since he will be out of P-days at that point (based on his ship date of 08/13/2014), he will have some training, but nothing new and it will not count as a DOT. See Arrival and What Happens at the RTC and "Holiday Routine" in What does ??? mean? (A Guide to Navy Abbreviations and Terminology) for more on that. There is info on what the recruits do during P-Hold in Arrival and What Happens at the RTC and your then recruit will have that, just not on Labor Day.
